Instagram now lets users download Reels, but Indian users can’t download it yet! – Crypto News

Instagram is finally allowing its users to download Reels from the platform. However, the ability is available to select users only. In a recent message on his broadcast channel, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced that Instagram users in the US can now directly download Reels to their device.

Instagram has about 2.35 billion monthly active users globally. India, alone accounts for 229 million users (as of January 2023). But despite the popularity, users in India will still not be able to use this feature. As mentioned above, the feature is currently available to Instagram users in the US only.

“In the US, we’re rolling out the ability to download reels shared by public accounts to your camera roll. Just tap the Share icon on a reel you love and select Download. Worth mentioning, reels shared by private accounts can’t be downloaded and public accounts can turn off the ability for people to download their reels in Account Settings,” read his message on the Instagram broadcast channel.

Mosseri also explained how a user can download Instagram Reels in their camera roll directly from the app. To do so, one needs to simply tap on the Share button and tap on Download.

He stated that reels from only public accounts are eligible for download. Additionally, public accounts can also choose to turn off the ability to download Reels.

While he didn’t specifically mention that the downloaded Reels will have a watermark, but the image shared by him does indicate that the downloaded video will show an Instagram logo along with the account name.

As mentioned above, Indian users will still have to wait a bit longer to finally download the Instagram Reels through official means. Meanwhile, you can either use a third-party app or try this roundabout way to download Reels.

  • Go to Instagram and open the Reels you want to save.
  • Next, tap the share icon and choose ‘Add to story’
  • Zoom in on the reels to fit the layout and tap the three-dot button
  • Select ‘Save’
