Criticizing the Congress and other opposition parties over the parliament building row, Union Home Minister Amit Shah termed their collective decision to boycott the inauguration as “cheap politics”. He also affirmed that the public will choose Narendra Modi as the PM for the third term, as he will win over 300 seats in the 2024 polls next year.

“The people of the country gave a two-thirds mandate and made Modiji PM. The people give their verdict, it is not dependent on the wishes of Congress. This is democracy. The people gave mandate for PM Modi but Congress and its royal family is not prepared to accept the verdict for nine years,” said Amit Shah while addressing an event in Guwahati on Thursday.

He went ahead and lashed out at Congress for making a hill of mole. He said that Congress and opposition parties are making excuses that the President should inaugurate the new Parliament building. Afterwards, he sighted several instances when Governors of states with opposition as the ruling party, were not invited to ‘Bhoomi pujan’ functions concerning state assemblies.

After that, he said that 130 crore Indians are watching the deeds of the opposition and will give their decision next year. He also said that the Congress won’t be able to retain the existing number of seats in the coming elections. On the other hand, PM Modi will come back to power by winning more than 300 seats.

“What you are doing, 130 crore people of the country are watching. In the next elections, when you go to seek a mandate…you have lost the status of opposition, next time you will not win this many seats. PM Modi will become prime minister for the third time winning over 300 seats in the 2024 Loksabha electionssaid Amit Shah.

It is worth noting that PM Modi will inaugurate the new Parliament building on May 28. But Congress and other opposition parties had decided to boycott the event.

“The attitude of the Congress party is negative. Congress and its partners are giving an example of cheap politics and resorting to boycott,” the minister said.

He recalled the incident when the then Chhattisgarh Governor was not invited to the bhoomi pujan function of the new state assembly and Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were invited.

He cited similar incidents in Jharkhand, Assam, Manipur, and Tamil Nadu. “When you do, all is fine. And when the BJP does it, you boycott it,” he said.

After the extravagant spending on the construction of the parliament building, now its inauguration ceremony has become the center of a political row, where Congress and other opposition parties are demanding the inauguration of the building by President Droupadi Murmi instead of PM Modi.
