We are certainly living in an age of transformation when it comes to artificial intelligence, with some people genuinely excited about the potential of platforms like ChatGPT, while many also express concerns about dangers to such advanced artificial intelligence systems. Microsoft released a research paper in March that highlights the potential of these generative artificial intelligence systems to process information like humans and generate responses while taking physical technicalities under consideration.

In the research paper, it was revealed that the computer scientists at Microsoft conducted an experiment with one AI system and asked it to solve a puzzle. “Here we have a book, nine eggs, a laptop, a bottle, and a nail. Please tell me how to stack them onto each other in a stable manner,” the puzzle said.

The response of the artificial intelligence was nothing short of a shock to the researchers and they were astonished by the fact that the AI ​​system really considered the intuitive aspects of human brain and knowledge of the physical world.

“Place the laptop on top of the eggs, with the screen facing down and the keyboard facing up. The laptop will fit snugly within the boundaries of the book and the eggs, and its flat and rigid surface will provide a stable platform for the next layer,” was the response of the artificial intelligence platform.

In the paper, the researchers also suggested a term for such an extreme level of intelligence of the AI ​​platform and called it Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). The term can be used for all such machines which can do everything possible for a human brain.

The scientists are clearly divided over the future of such artificial intelligence platforms and some are even dismissing the tall claims. They believe that a phenomenon can be really magical for one scientist and normal for another.

In 2022, an employee working at Google was terminated from the service for asserting that a particular artificial intelligence system possessed sentience, implying that the AI ​​system had the ability to perceive or experience occurrences taking place in the world.
