Shutterstock has released a text-to-image generator based on OpenAI’s DALL-E 2 engine for its platform. In contrast to the rival AI model Stable Diffusion, the new synthetic media service is custom-trained on the Shutterstock image library, with royalties paid to the artists whose work was used in the process.

Shutterstock claims in the announcement that the pictures are “ethically created” and “larger-than-life.” In other words, unless AI goes rogue and starts generating nudes, it will abide by the platform’s Terms of Use.
