Truecaller is launching a new AI powered ‘personal voice’ feature which will alow users to create a digital version of their own voice that can used to greet users and identify the purpose their call. The new feature which will be part of Truecaller’s AI Assistant has been powered by Microsoft’s Azure AI speech technology. 

What does personal voice feature on Truecaller do? 

The AI Assistant on Truecaller has been a part of the application for some time now and is already adept at handling tasks like answering and screen phone calls, take messages, respond on user’s behalf and record the conversation. However, with the new feature Truecaller will allow users to get the phone answered in their ‘real’ voices instead of them being answered in a synthetic sounding voice by a digital assistant. 

Truecaller says the new feature will create a more engaging experience for the caller when interaction with the virtual assistant. In order to use the feature will need to record their voice for a few seconds while setting up the AI assistant. 

Users will also be able to make changes to greeting template of the callers as long as it still makes it clear that it is a ‘digital’ version of the user’s voice responding to the call. Moreover, Microsoft Azure already watermarks the personal voice in order to prevent potential misuse of the audio.

Trucaller Israel Product Director & General Manager Raphael Mimoun said in a blog post that the new feature is a significant step  “towards delivering a truly personalized and engaging communication experience.”

“The personal voice feature allows our users to use their own voice, enabling the digital assistant to sound just like them when handling incoming calls. This groundbreaking capability not only adds a touch of familiarity and comfort for the users but also showcases the power of AI in transforming the way we interact with our digital assistants.” Mimoun added

How to use the new personal voice feature? 

The personal voice feature is a part of Truecaller’s Assistant and can be be used by navigating to the personal voice option in the settings menu. The feature will be accessible only to paid users via a public beta which will start rolling out in India, US, Canada, Australia, South Africa and Chile in the coming few weeks.
