{"id":119123,"date":"2023-07-07T05:33:54","date_gmt":"2023-07-07T05:33:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/vitalik-buterin-says-ordinals-have-revived-builder-culture-on-bitcoin-crypto-news\/"},"modified":"2023-07-07T05:33:56","modified_gmt":"2023-07-07T05:33:56","slug":"vitalik-buterin-says-ordinals-have-revived-builder-culture-on-bitcoin-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/vitalik-buterin-says-ordinals-have-revived-builder-culture-on-bitcoin-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Vitalik Buterin says Ordinals have revived &#8216;builder culture&#8217; on Bitcoin\n &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-v-7c7881ea=\"\">\n<p>The advent of Bitcoin (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/bitcoin-price\">BTC<\/a>) Ordinals signals the &#8220;organic return of builder culture&#8221; to the network, according to Ethereum co-founder <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/tags\/vitalik-buterin\">Vitalik Buterin<\/a>,<\/p>\n<p>Buterin made the comments in a July 7 Twitter <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/i\/spaces\/1DXxyvDYZqgKM\">space<\/a> where he spoke at length with Bitcoin proponents Eric Wall and Udi Wertheimer about what Bitcoin developers could learn from Ethereum devs. <\/p>\n<p>Buterin praised Ordinals and the BRC-20 token standard which he sees as a rejection of \u201cstagnant\u201d politics in the Bitcoin ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOrdinals are starting to bring back a culture of actually doing things. Wall claimed Bitcoin&#8217;s Lightning Network can&#8217;t scale for future users and it fails &#8220;frequently&#8221; when processing &#8220;even medium-sized payments.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In response, Buterin suggested the best approach would be to focus on implementing different types of layer-2 solutions along with looking for ways to make the Bitcoin base layer more efficient. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI think focusing on rollups is good and so is being open to ZK-snark-based scaling solutions.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Wertheimer believed the introduction of rollups could create an interesting side effect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we adopted rollups for Bitcoin, we actually get an execution environment too [\u2026] We can do smart contracts,\u201d Wertheimer said. <\/p>\n<p>Wall and Wertheimer \u2014 two key figures behind the Ordinals project Taproot Wizards \u2014 are outspoken exponents of Ordinals and routinely advocate for building increased functionality on top of the Bitcoin network.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/bitcoin-miners-raked-millions-in-fees-q2-amid-ordinals\"><strong><em>Bitcoin miners raked in $184M in fees in Q2, surpassing all of 2022<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Their stance has drawn criticism from more fundamentalist Bitcoiners who <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/ordinals-protocol-sparks-debate-over-nft-s-place-in-the-bitcoin-ecosystem\">claim NFTs and smart contracts<\/a> on Bitcoin dilute its supposed primary function as a peer-to-peer cash network.<\/p>\n<p>Such critics include Jan3 CEO Samson Mow, who <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/ordinals-and-brc-20-will-disappear-in-months-jan3-ceo-says\">believes Ordinals waste block space<\/a> that could otherwise be dedicated to Bitcoin payments. <\/p>\n<p>Wall noted these criticisms and explained that Bitcoin could be used as a &#8220;proof system&#8221; for zero-knowledge proofs that wouldn&#8217;t congest the network.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy perspective is that we [Bitcoiners] always wanted to do DeFi adjacent things but we just wanted the Bitcoin base layer to just act as sort of a judge or an arbiter of that computation and not have to run the computation on-chain,\u201d Wall said. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe shouldn&#8217;t necessarily just be thinking about second layers as a way to make payments, but I think we could also think about them.
