{"id":120407,"date":"2023-07-10T16:52:17","date_gmt":"2023-07-10T16:52:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/bank-of-international-settlements-predicts-15-retail-and-nine-wholesale-cbdcs-by-2030-crypto-news\/"},"modified":"2023-07-10T16:52:19","modified_gmt":"2023-07-10T16:52:19","slug":"bank-of-international-settlements-predicts-15-retail-and-nine-wholesale-cbdcs-by-2030-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/bank-of-international-settlements-predicts-15-retail-and-nine-wholesale-cbdcs-by-2030-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Bank of International Settlements predicts 15 retail and nine wholesale CBDCs by 2030\n &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p>The Bank of International Settlements (BIS) predicted that there will be 15 retail and nine wholesale Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) by 2030, according to its <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bis.org\/publ\/bppdf\/bispap136.pdf\">surveys<\/a> of 86 central banks.<\/p>\n<h2>Central Banks increasingly pro-CBDC<\/h2>\n<p>According to the report, 93% of central banks are researching CBDCs, and more than 50% have started making substantial efforts to develop one, including creating a pilot project.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_341249\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-341249\" style=\"width: 1014px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-341249\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: BIS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While only four countries\u2014<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/nigerias-cbdc-program-called-a-very-dark-experiment\/\">Nigeria<\/a>Jamaica, The Bahamas\u2014have issued retail CBDCs, BIS noted that other apex banks could follow suit, as 18% of the 86 banks surveyed said they could give retail national digital currencies soon.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the top banks of countries such as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bank-of-england-taps-self-sovereign-id-platform-nuggets-to-develop-privacy-layer-for-digital-pound\/\">England<\/a>Peru, India, Canada, and the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ecb-president-warns-central-banks-could-losing-control-without-cbdcs\/\">European Central Bank<\/a> are actively investigating the possibility of issuing digital versions of their currencies.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, BIS noted that the increasing popularity of cryptocurrencies appears to be a significant <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/imf-wants-to-create-a-global-cbdc-platform-to-compete-with-threat-of-crypto\/\">factor driving<\/a> Central Banks&#8217; interest in CBDCs.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cNearly 60% of respondent central banks said that the emergence of cryptoassets and stablecoins has accelerated their work on CBDCs.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>BIS extols CBDCs virtues<\/h2>\n<p>The report also highlighted the multiple advantages of stablecoins.  It noted that retail CBDCs will improve financial inclusion and payment efficiency while wholesale CBDCs will enhance cross-border payments.<\/p>\n<p>BIS stated that CBDCs would complement the current fast payment systems (FPS) already in existence, adding that more than 80% of central banks think there might be value in having both an FPS and a CBDC.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_341251\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-341251\" style=\"width: 967px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-341251\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Screenshot-2023-07-10-162327.jpg\" alt=\"CBDC\" width=\"967\" height=\"702\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-341251\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: BIS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cDepending on their design, FPS and retail CBDCs can achieve similar objectives, such as enhancing financial inclusion and promoting faster and more efficient domestic and cross-border payments.
