{"id":121391,"date":"2023-07-12T13:42:58","date_gmt":"2023-07-12T13:42:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/south-korea-to-ask-firms-to-disclose-crypto-holdings-by-2024-crypto-news\/"},"modified":"2023-07-12T13:43:00","modified_gmt":"2023-07-12T13:43:00","slug":"south-korea-to-ask-firms-to-disclose-crypto-holdings-by-2024-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/south-korea-to-ask-firms-to-disclose-crypto-holdings-by-2024-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"South Korea to ask firms to disclose crypto holdings by 2024\n &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-v-7c7881ea=\"\">\n<p>The South Korean government is continuing to develop tighter regulations targeting the cryptocurrency industry with the introduction of new asset disclosure rules.<\/p>\n<p>On July 11, South Korea&#8217;s Financial Services Commission (FSC) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fsc.go.kr\/no010101\/80379\">declared<\/a> a new bill that would require all firms that issue or hold cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/bitcoin-price\">BTC<\/a>) to disclose their holdings.<\/p>\n<p>According to the announcement, the FSC reviewed related proposals and gave the green light to the exposure draft bill that introduces mandatory disclosure requirements for crypto.<\/p>\n<p>The new measures aim to enhance transparency in accounting and disclosure of crypto assets in line with supervision guidelines that require accounting for each transaction involving crypto.  The initiative also targets revision of accounting standards that mandate disclosure of virtual asset transactions.<\/p>\n<p>In the current draft version of South Korea&#8217;s crypto accounting supervision guidelines, the FSC <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fsc.go.kr:8300\/v\/pJAi5urC9tM\">mentioned<\/a> that the scope of crypto assets to be reported includes fungible assets based on distributed ledger technology or a \u201csimilar technology,\u201d or those issued using cryptography.  Security tokens, or digitized securities under the terms of the Capital Markets Act, are also included in the scope of application of the guidelines, the regulator noted.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Timing of South Korea&#8217;s new crypto supervision guidelines. The affected employees reportedly include those who currently perform crypto-related duties and those who have performed such duties over the past six months.<\/p>\n<p>While the latest crypto disclosure rules are somewhat new, South Korea has already required government officials to declare their crypto holdings.<\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217;s National Assembly unanimously <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/south-korea-bitcoin-crypto-disclosure-bill-passes-national-assembly\">passed a bill that obliges lawmakers<\/a> and high-ranking public officials to report on their crypto assets.
