{"id":122153,"date":"2023-07-13T22:32:29","date_gmt":"2023-07-13T22:32:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/uk-bill-on-online-safety-should-apply-in-the-metaverse-say-lawmakers-crypto-news\/"},"modified":"2023-07-13T22:32:31","modified_gmt":"2023-07-13T22:32:31","slug":"uk-bill-on-online-safety-should-apply-in-the-metaverse-say-lawmakers-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/uk-bill-on-online-safety-should-apply-in-the-metaverse-say-lawmakers-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"UK bill on online safety should apply in the metaverse, say lawmakers\n &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-v-b01e4970=\"\">\n<p>Legislation aimed at regulating certain internet services in the United Kingdom should cover activities in the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/top-people-in-crypto-and-blockchain-2023\/the-metaverse\">metaverse<\/a>according to members of the House of Lords.<\/p>\n<p>In a July 12 session of the UK parliament, members of the upper house <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/hansard.parliament.uk\/lords\/2023-07-12\/debates\/166C8F0B-D314-4AF6-A7FB-341766931E1F\/OnlineSafetyBill\">debated<\/a> whether the Online Safety Bill would cover &#8220;certain harmful content&#8221; users could come across in a virtual environment like the metaverse. In the United States, advocacy groups have <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/metaverse-for-youth-meta-urged-to-ban-minors-from-virtual-world\">called on meta<\/a> to not allow minors to use the company&#8217;s metaverse platform, Horizon Worlds, citing the risk of harassment and loss of privacy.<\/p>\n<p>The UK Online Safety Bill is scheduled for more debate in the House of Lords on July 17.
