Escalating China-US tensions and the poor performance of technology stocks following uninspiring earnings weigh on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fxstreet.com\/technical-analysis\/sentiment\">market sentiment<\/a>,  In the second half of the day, weekly Initial Jobless Claims, June Existing Home Sales and the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia&#8217;s Manufacturing Survey for July will be featured in the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fxstreet.com\/economic-calendar\/united-states\">US economic docket<\/a>,  The European Commission will release the July Consumer Confidence Index.<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s ambassador to Washington, Xie Feng, noted late Wednesday China would respond if the US were to impose more curbs on the country&#8217;s chip sector.  &#8220;The Chinese government cannot simply sit idly by. There&#8217;s a Chinese saying that we will not make provocations, but we will not flinch from provocations,&#8221; Feng said, as reported by Reuters.  The Shanghai Composite Index fell nearly 1% on Thursday and the Nasdaq Futures were last seen losing nearly 1% on the day.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the US data releases, the<strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fxstreet.com\/currencies\/us-dollar-index\">US Dollar<\/a> Index<\/strong> consolidates Wednesday gains above 100.00 and the benchmark 10-year US Treasury bond yield stays in positive territory at around 3.8%.<\/p>\n<p>In the Asian session on Thursday, the People&#8217;s Bank of China announced that it left the one-year and five-year loan prime rates unchanged at 3.55% and 4.20%, respectively.  Meanwhile, the data from Australia revealed that the Unemployment Rate held steady at 3.5% while Employment Change arrived at +32,600, higher than the market expectation of 15,000.  In reply, <strong>AUD\/USD<\/strong> gathered bullish momentum and climbed above 0.6800.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EUR\/USD<\/strong> closed in negative territory on Wednesday but managed to rise above 1.1200 early Thursday. <\/p>\n<p>Following Wednesday&#8217;s sharp decline that was triggered by soft inflation data from the UK, <strong>GBP\/USD<\/strong> finds it difficult to stage a rebound and stays in the red slightly above 1.2900 early Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>USD\/JPY<\/strong> extended its weekly uptrend but lost its momentum after testing 140.00 on Wednesday.  The pair stayed relatively quiet at around 139.50 in the European session.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Golden <\/strong>The price touched its highest level in three months at $1,987 early Thursday.
