These malicious actors persuaded individuals to download harmful beta-testing apps, disguising them as tools like cryptocurrency exchange platforms, thereby facilitating theft.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/nft-thefts-drop-as-fbi-exposes-new-developer-impersonation-scams\/\">FBI<\/a> continued that these victims usually input their legitimate account information into the application and unwittingly send money they believe would be invested in cryptocurrency to the scammers.<\/p>\n<p>According to the FBI, the malicious codes in these applications allow criminals to steal personal information, access the victim\u2019s financial account, or even take complete control of the device.<\/p>\n<p>The agency noted that the criminals could include these malicious codes in their applications because beta testing was not subject to the review process by mobile operating systems.<\/p>\n<p>The warning comes amidst the waves of recent complaints from some crypto users who said they lost their assets after downloading malware <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nft_dreww\/status\/1683156271829069825\">disguised<\/a> as a play-to-earn game.<\/p>\n<p>Blockchain analytical firm <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/certik\/\">CertiK<\/a> recommended that crypto users \u201cshould verify publishers, read reviews, and watch for odd permissions or malware signs.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Job listing scams<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Meanwhile, the FBI warning is coming a few days after ZachXBT <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/zachxbt\/status\/1688704588050771968?s=20\"><span class=\"s6\">uncovered<\/span><\/a> a scam job posting by Eco Land on a crypto job board website, cryptojob.com.<\/p>\n<p>Pau Bonnet, a job applicant, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Paubonet1\/status\/1689033205343473664\">detailed<\/a> how he lost all crypto assets in his hot wallet after applying for a job through Eco Land.
