A decentralized wireless network crypto project on the Solana (SOL<\/a>) layer-1 blockchain is aiming to transform the telecom industry with the launch of a new mobile phone plan.<\/p>\n In a statement<\/a>, Helium Mobile says it has just rolled out a phone plan, which will be initially available exclusively to Miami residents.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re launching in a single city to continue to scale our unique coverage model that combines our partner\u2019s nationwide 5G network with the people-built, open-source Helium Mobile Network.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The mobile carrier says the plan is being offered at a fraction of the cost offered by other telecom firms, citing an estimate from the comparison shopping engine WhistleOut, which indicates the average phone plan in the US costs about $114 per month.<\/p>\n \u201c$5 per month (+ taxes and fees) gets you unlimited talk, text, and data. For some of you, that\u2019s up to 95% less than what you\u2019re paying now.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Helium says it is capable of reducing costs because it is powered by individuals who can earn MOBILE tokens for sharing data rather than by corporations.
