Social Graph Project Will Offer Permissionless Onboarding Following Layer 2 Migration<\/p>\n
Farcaster, an Ethereum-based social media graph, plans to migrate onto Optimism, a leading Layer 2 network.<\/p>\n
Dan Romero, Farcaster\u2019s co-founder and CEO, noted<\/a> that many of its \u201cmost active users and developers\u201d are currently building on Optimism or another network using Optimism\u2019s OP Stack, such as Base or Zora.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re planning to migrate the Farcaster identity and storage contracts to OP Mainnet in the coming weeks,\u201d Romero added. \u201cAfter that, we plan to enable permissionless sign-ups.\u201d<\/p>\n With Ethereum\u2019s Layer 2s now processing five times<\/a> as many transactions per second (TPS) as the mainnet, many projects in the Ethereum ecosystem are pivoting the focus of their operations onto L2.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n The growth of Ethereum\u2019s scaling ecosystem also promises to unlock new applications requiring high transaction throughput and low fees, including decentralized social media protocols. On Aug. 18, Friend Tech revealed<\/a> it had received seed funding from Paradigm<\/a>, a top venture capital firm active in the web3 sector.<\/p>\n Farcaster closed a $30M funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz last July.<\/p>\n Analysts also attribute the emergence of Base, Coinbase\u2019s OP Stack-based Layer 2, as the top<\/a> Layer 2 by transaction throughput to friend.tech\u2019s surging user base. The network hosted 69,000<\/a> active users over the past day, according to Token Terminal.<\/p>\n More than 109,000<\/a> unique wallets have traded on friend.tech, according to Dune Analytics.<\/p>\n Base\u2019s success serves as a boon to Optimism\u2019s Superchain<\/a> roadmap, which outlines a unified ecosystem of symbiotic Layer 2s leveraging its open-source OP Stack<\/a>.
