{"id":142561,"date":"2023-09-01T19:28:25","date_gmt":"2023-09-01T13:58:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/?p=142561"},"modified":"2023-09-01T19:28:25","modified_gmt":"2023-09-01T13:58:25","slug":"alleged-former-worldcoin-employee-says-theyre-in-contact-with-authorities-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/alleged-former-worldcoin-employee-says-theyre-in-contact-with-authorities-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Alleged former Worldcoin employee says they\u2019re in contact with authorities &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-v-2649fa34=\"\">\n<p>An individual calling themselves Nadir Hajarabi, who claims to have previously worked for Worldcoin, has alleged the human identity verification project may have committed illegal acts during their employment.<\/p>\n<p>In an Aug. 23 YouTube video, Hajarabi <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IeCq39AuKpc\">said<\/a> they witnessed \u201cvery questionable\u201d activities at Worldcoin (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/worldcoin-wld-price-index\">WLD<\/a>), including \u201csloppy and\/or illegal things\u201d prior to quitting the project <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/worldcoin-launches-token-to-distinguish-humans-from-bots\">before its token launch<\/a> on July 24. They claimed the organization was holding some of their pay and were speaking with authorities in different jurisdictions as part of probes into Worldcoin.<\/p>\n<p>According to Hajarabi, the Worldcoin project had a \u201chorrendous execution,\u201d which involved cutting corners ahead of the release of its white paper, and they had seen red flags \u201cfrom day one.\u201d They said they contacted the Worldcoin CEO\u00a0and the organization\u2019s legal team but did not receive satisfactory answers for the alleged discrepancies in its mission versus execution. <\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"bye worldcoin\" width=\"740\" height=\"416\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IeCq39AuKpc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Cointelegraph was unable to independently verify Hajarabi\u2019s claims, though a photo\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NadirHajarabi\/status\/1695167096815079465\">posted<\/a> to X (formerly Twitter) appeared to show them with one of the project\u2019s iris-scanning orbs. Their YouTube channel, created in September 2013, featured only one video, with the allegations against Worldcoin. An X account that appeared to be controlled by the same individual posted a photo of an ETHGlobal Paris badge with Hajarabi\u2019s name and affiliation with Worldcoin. <\/p>\n<figure><figcaption style=\"text-align: center\"><em>X post by Nadir Hajarabi on Aug. 25 of an ETHGlobal Paris badge. Source: X<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A LinkedIn page of Hajarabi <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/nadirhajarabi\/\">appeared<\/a> to be connected to the same individual in the YouTube video \u2014 a Paris resident with experience in nonfungible tokens, Web3 projects and smart contracts. Cointelegraph reached out to Worldcoin for comment but did not receive a response at the time of publication.<\/p>\n<p>The Worldcoin project started with the intention of distinguishing real people from bots by providing retinal scans for identity verification through the orbs. There were more than 2 million sign-ups prior to the launch of the Worldcoin token in July.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/worldcoin-launch-sparks-debate-over-data-privacy-and-future-of-ai\"><strong><em>Worldcoin launch sparks debate over data privacy and future of AI<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the launch of the Worldcoin token and verification process, many in and out of the crypto space criticized the project, citing privacy concerns over user data. The Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/german-government-watchdog-launched-worldcoin-probe\">reportedly began investigating Worldcoin<\/a> in November 2022, while the French National Commission on Informatics and Liberty reportedly called its data collection methods \u201cquestionable.\u201d The Information Commissioner\u2019s Office in the United Kingdom has also <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/worldcoin-may-face-uk-data-regulators-enquiry-days-after-launch-report\">raised similar concerns<\/a> over the project. <\/p>\n<p>In August, Kenya\u2019s minister of internal security announced the country would <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/worldcoin-kenya-suspends-local-activities-of-worldcoin\">suspend Worldcoin\u2019s local operations<\/a> until authorities had the opportunity to assess any potential risk to residents, which reportedly included a raid and seizure of the organization\u2019s equipment.
