Powell Remains Fixated On 2% Inflation Target &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The likelihood of another Federal Reserve policy rate hike grew stronger on Friday after Fed Chairman Jerome Powell\u2019s speech at the Jackson Hole Symposium.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>During the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.barrons.com\/articles\/what-jerome-powell-said-jackson-hole-edc4bc88?mod=livecoverage_web\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">speech<\/a>, Powell reiterated that the Federal Reserve remains committed to bringing inflation down to 2%, despite some economists suggesting that achieving that target may be difficult.<\/li>\n<li>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cTwo percent is and will remain our inflation target,\u201d said Powell. Getting there, he added, will require a \u201cperiod of below-trend economic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>So far, the Fed isn\u2019t getting the results it needs, as the economy \u201cmay not be cooling as expected,\u201d he continued.<\/li>\n<li>Earlier this week, popular economist Paul Krugman wrote a piece for the New York Times, arguing that the Fed may want to target 3% inflation instead, arguing that 2% is \u201cprobably bad economics.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>After the speech, the odds of a rate hike at the Fed\u2019s next meeting in September rose to 19%, according to the CME FedWatch tool.
