{"id":148212,"date":"2023-09-02T04:34:06","date_gmt":"2023-09-01T23:04:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/?p=148212"},"modified":"2023-09-02T04:34:06","modified_gmt":"2023-09-01T23:04:06","slug":"ex-sec-chair-jay-clayton-says-approval-for-a-spot-bitcoin-etf-is-inevitable-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/ex-sec-chair-jay-clayton-says-approval-for-a-spot-bitcoin-etf-is-inevitable-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-SEC chair Jay Clayton says approval for a spot Bitcoin ETF is \u2018inevitable\u2019 &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p>Former SEC chair <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/jay-clayton\/\">Jay Clayton<\/a> suggested that U.S. securities regulators will likely approve a Bitcoin ETF during an interview with CNBC on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Zf0iSEK-RDI\">Sept. 1<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Clayton nevertheless said he was not surprised that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) had postponed decisions on various pending Bitcoin ETFs.<\/p>\n<p>He went on to explain that \u201cthe job for the SEC is a challenging one.\u201d Clayton explained that when cryptocurrency first emerged, the securities regulator had to handle offerings that were clearly not compliant with securities laws. But now, the SEC has to deal with broader crypto offerings, including some that have \u201cclearly shown promise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clayton declined to say whether he would approve a spot Bitcoin ETF if he remained in charge of the SEC but stated that Bitcoin is not a security.<\/p>\n<p>Clayton also expressed optimism about upcoming ETF approvals in light of the fact that the SEC has previously approved Bitcoin futures ETFs. He said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201c\u2026 An approval is inevitable. The dichotomy between a futures product and cash product [ie. a spot Bitcoin ETF] can\u2019t go on forever \u2026 I think that\u2019s the path we\u2019re on.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He asserted that participation from large institutions and surveillance-sharing mechanisms exist for prospective spot Bitcoin ETFs. He said that, to his knowledge, this is the only objection that the SEC had toward spot Bitcoin ETFs in the past.<\/p>\n<h2>Clayton commented after other developments<\/h2>\n<p>Clayton made his statements just one day after the SEC <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/sec-delays-decision-on-five-spot-bitcoin-etfs\/\">delayed decisions<\/a> on several proposed Bitcoin ETFs. The regulator will reach a decision on those ETFs and their associated proposed rule changes on various dates starting in mid-October. The SEC will either accept or reject the proposals at that time.<\/p>\n<p>Many of Clayton\u2019s statements were also a reaction to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/anthony-pompliano\/\">Anthony Pompliano<\/a>, who was additionally interviewed by CNBC today.
