Source: TradingView<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For most of the past two days, BTC\/USD acted in a tight $200 corridor, data from <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pro.cointelegraph.com\/?via=markets&amp;_ga=2.173325223.503936973.1685953699-1136475544.1627545224\">Cointelegraph Markets Pro<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/BTCUSD\/?exchange=BINANCE\">TradingView<\/a>\u00a0shows \u2014 but modest spikes up and down belied the presence of speculative exchange players.<\/p>\n<p>These were noticed by popular trader Skew, who uploaded order book data showing failed shorts being behind Bitcoin\u2019s brief trips past $26,000.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%24BTC&amp;src=ctag&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">$BTC<\/a> <br \/>Positions are still getting blown out in $200 price moves on a sunday lol <\/p>\n<p>this small pop was shorts getting blown out or closing at market <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7ih2KpjEEq\">pic.twitter.com\/7ih2KpjEEq<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Skew \u0394 (@52kskew) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/52kskew\/status\/1698319058159169876?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 3, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAll it took was someone figuring out where stops were and market buying a few mil in spot then dumping it after forcing out some shorts,\u201d part of additional X (formerly Twitter) commentary added.<\/p>\n<p>Further BTC spot market analysis queried whether the weekly close, which came in at around $25,970, would end up as a plan to give bulls a false sense of security.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%24BTC&amp;src=ctag&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">$BTC<\/a> <br \/>Operation save the 1W or is it operation trap the bulls into tuesday? <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pP4JbeHzXC\">pic.twitter.com\/pP4JbeHzXC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Skew \u0394 (@52kskew) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/52kskew\/status\/1698241302083903909?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 3, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As Cointelegraph reported, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/bitcoin-price-chart-analyst-nothing-changed\">$25,900 was already on the radar<\/a> for Skew as the level to hold into the weekly candle close.<\/p>\n<p>For fellow trader and analyst Rekt Capital, however, anything much below $26,000 was cause for concern on longer timeframes.<\/p>\n<p>Failure to reclaim that level, he warned over the weekend, meant risking a double top structure for 2023, with the area around $31,000 the BTC price ceiling and protracted downside to come.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA BTC Weekly Candle Close below ~$26,000 (green) would likely confirm the Double Top to kickstart the breakdown process,\u201d he <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rektcapital\/status\/1697906424360136766\">commented<\/a> on a chart showing the setup.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-09\/2dceca0e-253b-4ed4-9575-50f34c753fbe.jpeg\" \/><figcaption style=\"text-align: center\"><em>BTC\/USD annotated chart. Source: Rekt Capital\/X<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Fed speakers headline macro week<\/h2>\n<p>A cool macro week is meanwhile a potential source of light relief for risk asset traders.<\/p>\n<p>The coming four-day week for the U.S. holds little in terms of significant macroeconomic data, with the Federal Reserve itself instead in focus.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the month\u2019s crunch interest rates decision on Sep. 19, various senior Fed officials will offer commentary on the state of the economy this week. These include Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic and New York Fed President John Williams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShort week, but it&#8217;s all about the Fed,\u201d financial commentary resource The Kobeissi Letter <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KobeissiLetter\/status\/1698321333724049709\">summarized<\/a> on X alongside the main diary dates for the coming days.<\/p>\n<p>It added that Fed policy was \u201cstill far from clear\u201d in the run-up to the rates decision.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin has become <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/september-crash-5-things-bitcoin-btc-price-this-week\">notably less sensitive to Fed comments<\/a> over the summer, with even those of Fed Chair Jerome Powell not managing to impact BTC price action significantly.<\/p>\n<p>The words used by officials can nonetheless upend market expectations for what will happen with the Fed\u2019s inflation battle.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of writing, per data from CME Group\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cmegroup.com\/markets\/interest-rates\/cme-fedwatch-tool.html\">FedWatch Tool<\/a>, markets overwhelmingly expected \u2014 with 93% certainty \u2014 rates to remain the same in September.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-09\/533070ef-513f-4bd8-b5e5-a0988e395cf0.png\" \/><figcaption style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Fed target rate probabilities chart. Source: CME Group<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Difficulty due comedown from all-time highs<\/h2>\n<p>After surging ahead to new all-time highs two weeks ago, Bitcoin mining difficulty is coming down to earth. <\/p>\n<p>In a modest consolidation, difficulty is expected to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/btc.com\/stats\/diff\">drop by around 2.4%<\/a> at its upcoming automated readjustment on Sep. 5.<\/p>\n<p>This is nothing unusual by historical standards, especially in light of the 6.5% increase seen in mid-August \u2014 a boost which came despite BTC price action going the other way.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-09\/97da123b-26dc-45a6-82fd-ae2d028d68f6.png\" \/><figcaption style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Bitcoin network fundamentals overview (screenshot). Source: BTC.com<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Analyzing the potential cause, James Straten, research and data analyst at crypto insights firm CryptoSlate, flagged an accompanying decrease in Bitcoin miners\u2019 BTC stockpile.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has coincided with miner balance decreasing by about 4k BTC, primarily coming from F2Pool that has seen its BTC balance cut in half,\u201d part of weekend X commentary <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jimmyvs24\/status\/1697920415643947378\">read<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Straten added that any further decrease in BTC price performance could result in additional miner stress, compounding the trend at F2Pool.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf bitcoin was to experience another drop down we could likely see another miner capitulation,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting, IT Tech, a contributor to on-chain analytics platform CryptoQuant, referenced a correlation between \u201cminor\u201d BTC price dips and miners sending BTC to exchanges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis action, of course, increased the selling pressure, eventually leading them to sell on the market,\u201d an excerpt from recent comments <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IT_Tech_PL\/status\/1697871562223784176\">stated<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>IT Tech described the BTC sales as modest in size but occurring \u201cin the worst moments.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Dormant BTC supply sets new records<\/h2>\n<p>Behind the scenes, Bitcoin\u2019s supply is steadily becoming more and more the property of long-term holders.<\/p>\n<p>The latest data from on-chain analytics firm Glassnode reveals several new records pertaining to BTC locked up in long-term storage.<\/p>\n<p>The percentage of the currently mined supply which has now been dormant for <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/glassnodealerts\/status\/1698535172667252982\">three years or more<\/a> is now 40.538% \u2014 its highest ever.<\/p>\n<p>The equivalent measure for coins stationary in wallets for <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/glassnodealerts\/status\/1698520062754197861\">at least five years<\/a> now stands at 29.637% \u2014 similarly a new record.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-09\/5e9895d8-f95a-4fa0-8fa5-09a4b90b311f.jpeg\" \/><figcaption style=\"text-align: center\"><em>BTC supply last active five years ago or longer chart. Source: Glassnode\/X<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Supply constriction is a welcome sight for Bitcoin bulls, who conclude that any future demand for BTC will see buyers compete for a smaller amount of the supply.<\/p>\n<p>In recent analysis, Straten also noted that Bitcoin speculators, commonly called short-term holders, had already distributed BTC to the market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce again, bitcoin short term holders have capitulated roughly 20k BTC sent to exchanges at a loss,\u201d he <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jimmyvs24\/status\/1697918625892442508\">wrote<\/a> at the weekend.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cFourth highest amount this year. Source: James Straten\/X<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Accompanying Glassnode data showed the volume of BTC sent by short-term holders to exchanges at a loss.<\/p>\n<h2>Interest turns back the clock to 2020<\/h2>\n<p>Bitcoin is hardly a mainstream conversation topic for the average non-crypto consumer this year, and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=all&amp;q=Bitcoin&amp;hl=en-GB\">Google Trends<\/a> data proves it.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related:\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/bitcoin-price-prediction-metric-long-23k-btc\">Bitcoin metric with \u2018100% long hit rate\u2019 predicts $23K BTC price floor<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Normalized search interest is now back at levels seen before BTC\/USD broke beyond its old 2017 all-time high of $20,000 in late 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Search activity is heavily linked to BTC price action, and the lack of notable upside events throughout Q2 appears to have contributed to flat mainstream attention.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-09\/fc8c101a-540e-4278-b69d-0c987b7b593c.png\" \/><figcaption style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Google search data for &#8220;Bitcoin&#8221; (screenshot).
