A malicious actor used Buterin\u2019s X handle to post a phishing link. Taken in by Buterin\u2019s apparent endorsement, a number of users lost high-value NFTs.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Victims were lured in with the prospect of minting a commemorative ConsenSys NFT, but found their wallets drained once they confirmed a transaction on the phishing site. The scammer\u2019s wallet currently holds assets worth over $390,000, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/tokenholdings?a=0x4ef6f0d3f94ff609acef88068b1fc66a1184b3f3\">Etherscan<\/a>, but at one point, as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/zachxbt\/status\/1700650151298089374?s=20\">noted<\/a> by crypto sleuth ZachXBT, the hacker had amassed at least $691,000 worth of stolen loot.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/tokenholdings?a=0x4ef6f0d3f94ff609acef88068b1fc66a1184b3f3\" class=\"no-underline\"><\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hacker's address balance\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"653\" height=\"266.9770290964778\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"mx-auto\" id='b' style='filter: url(%23b)' src=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/_next\/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.sanity.io%2Fimages%2F6oftkxoa%2Fproduction%2F6920867e01b321bfa308ca371c33cd1fe3b820e0-653x227.jpg&amp;w=828&amp;q=75\" \/><figcaption class=\"text-center text-xs\">Hacker&#8217;s address balance<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Among the hacker\u2019s spoils was a piece of NFT history, the first Larva Labs Crypto Punk to be claimed by a member of the general public, according to X user <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/0xQuit\/status\/1700682249694523422\">quit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"screenshot of tweet\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"768\" height=\"1126.517162471396\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"mx-auto\" id='b' style='filter: url(%23b)' src=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/_next\/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.sanity.io%2Fimages%2F6oftkxoa%2Fproduction%2F10850cb8765789983fa1fcfe4a85bbe5155e5e5c-874x1282.jpg&amp;w=828&amp;q=75\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>The current highest bid for a Crypto Punk on the NFT marketplace, Blur, is 45 ETH, or approximately $73,500.<\/p>\n<p>The post has since been taken down, and Buterin is yet to post on X since the incident occurred.
