What&#8217;s more, its bearish momentum is likely to continue in September.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Back-to-back Pepecoin security breaches<\/h2>\n<p>Pepecoin has suffered two concerning security breaches in the last two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>First, on Aug. 24, Pepecoin&#8217;s rogue founding team members <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/pepe-price-zero-rug-pull-memecoin-risk\">transferred<\/a> $16 million worth of PEPE tokens to exchanges to potentially sell them. That created concerns across the community about a potential &#8220;rug pull scam,&#8221; causing a 30% decline in the PEPE market. <\/p>\n<p>Then, on Sep. 9, Pepecoin&#8217;s official X (aka Twitter) handle confirmed that an anonymous entity dubbed &#8220;lordkeklol&#8221; had hacked their accredited Telegram channel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u274c\u274c <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%24PEPE&amp;src=ctag&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">$PEPE<\/a> Announcement\u274c\u274c<\/p>\n<p>The old telegram for <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%24PEPE&amp;src=ctag&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">$PEPE<\/a> is hacked and no longer in our control. The \u201clordkeklol\u201d account has been compromised. Whoever has gained access to this account is using it to push scams and deceive people and launch other coins. This person is lying and\u2026 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/jxlYwoSP1Q\">pic.twitter.com\/jxlYwoSP1Q<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Pepe (@pepecoineth) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pepecoineth\/status\/1700335056433393690?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 9, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>PEPE price has dropped over 12% since the news, hinting that the back-to-back security breaches have eroded investors&#8217; confidence in the memecoin project.<\/p>\n<h2>Pepe whales exit<\/h2>\n<p>More evidence about Pepecoin&#8217;s investors leaving the project comes from the token&#8217;s supply distribution data.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, addresses with a balance between 100 million and 1 billion PEPE (the blue wave in the chart below) control the token&#8217;s maximum circulating supply \u2014 about 96.5% of it.
