{"id":156456,"date":"2023-09-15T13:58:27","date_gmt":"2023-09-15T08:28:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/?p=156456"},"modified":"2023-09-15T13:58:27","modified_gmt":"2023-09-15T08:28:27","slug":"xrp-lawyer-john-deaton-joins-lbry-case-as-amicus-curiae-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/xrp-lawyer-john-deaton-joins-lbry-case-as-amicus-curiae-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"XRP lawyer John Deaton joins LBRY case as amicus curiae &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-v-281e09ba=\"\">\n<p>Lawyer John Deaton, who represents numerous <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/xrp-price-index\">XRP<\/a> token holders in the Ripple- Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) lawsuit, has formally submitted his notice of appearance as an Amicus Curiae in the LBRY lawsuit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to a document <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/filanlaw\/status\/1702361481344409791\">submitted<\/a> on Sept. 14, 2023, to the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, Deaton has officially submitted his Notice of Appearance on behalf of Amicus Curiae Naomi Brockwell.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to his submission, Deaton\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JohnEDeaton1\/status\/1702363928007704758\">said<\/a>\u00a0in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter),<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWin, lose, or draw, we will be in the fight!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Notably, Naomi Brockwell serves as the founder of Crypto Law, a platform dedicated to offering insights and updates on legal and regulatory developments related to cryptocurrencies in the United States, in collaboration with Deaton. <\/p>\n<p>The lawyer is known for his advocacy for the rights of cryptocurrency investors and his active engagements in legal proceedings and discussions surrounding cryptocurrency regulations and legal actions.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2021, the United States SEC <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/lbry-fires-back-at-sec-over-aggressive-and-disastrous-securities-complaint\">initiated a legal action against LBRY<\/a>, alleging that the company unlawfully sold LBC tokens without registering with the agency, as required by law.<\/p>\n<p>On Sept. 7, LBRY <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/59774584\/111\/us-securities-and-exchange-commission-v-lbry-inc\/\">filed<\/a> a notice of appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/lbry-decides-to-fight-blockchain-firm-files-notice-of-appeal-against-sec\">seeking to challenge the final judgment<\/a> entered on July 11 that ordered LBRY to pay a civil penalty and barred it from participating in unregistered offerings of crypto asset securities in the future.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2023, the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/lbry-judge-declines-ruling-on-secondary-sales-being-securities\">issued the final judgment in the US SEC vs. LBRY lawsuit<\/a>.
