{"id":159149,"date":"2023-09-20T09:53:17","date_gmt":"2023-09-20T04:23:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/?p=159149"},"modified":"2023-09-20T09:53:17","modified_gmt":"2023-09-20T04:23:17","slug":"sec-will-load-more-charges-on-crypto-exchanges-and-defi-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/sec-will-load-more-charges-on-crypto-exchanges-and-defi-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"SEC will load more charges on crypto exchanges and DeFi &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission will expand its regulatory enforcement beyond Coinbase and Binance.US onto other cryptocurrency exchanges, intermediaries and decentralized finance (DeFi) entities, the agency\u2019s head of crypto assets and cyber unit David Hirsch said Tuesday at a forum in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>See related article:<\/em><\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/forkast.news\/headlines\/u-s-sec-denied-access-to-binance-software\/\">U.S. SEC denied immediate access to Binance.US software<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fast facts<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The SEC is currently investigating other companies that have allegedly conducted similar breaches as Coinbase and Binance.US, Hirsch said at the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/docketevents.com\/live\/69\/page\/829\">Securities Enforcement Forum Central<\/a> in Chicago.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWe\u2019re going to continue to bring those charges,\u201d said Hirsch, adding that intermediaries such as brokers, dealers and clearing agencies that are not fulfilling their obligations will not escape the regulator\u2019s reach.<\/li>\n<li>The SEC <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/forkast.news\/headlines\/sec-sues-coinbase-for-violating-rules\/\">sued<\/a> Coinbase and Binance.US in June, based on accusations that the two major crypto platforms were offering unregistered securities, which deprived investors of protection against conflicts of interest and other risks.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The agency\u2019s longstanding legal battle with Ripple Labs is also centered around the SEC\u2019s claim that sales of XRP constituted the unregistered offering of investment contracts.<\/li>\n<li>Hirsch further added that adding a \u201cDeFi\u201d label to an operation will not help circumvent the SEC\u2019s enforcement.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>In the agency\u2019s enforcement action against the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/forkast.news\/sec-stoner-cats-unregistered-securities-as-nfts\/\">Stoner Cats<\/a> non-fungible token (NFT) project, SEC enforcement director Gurbir Grewal said the \u201ceconomic reality of the offering\u201d determines an offering as a financial security, not its labels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>See related article:<\/em><\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/forkast.news\/sec-stoner-cats-unregistered-securities-as-nfts\/\">SEC fines Stoner Cats for selling unregistered securities as NFTs<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission will expand its regulatory enforcement beyond Coinbase and Binance.US onto other cryptocurrency exchanges, intermediaries and decentralized finance (DeFi) entities, the agency\u2019s head of crypto assets and cyber unit David Hirsch said Tuesday at a forum in Chicago.
