The SEC\u2019s appeal of the July ruling was <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/news\/judge-greenlights-sec-motion-to-file-appeal\">granted<\/a> on Aug. 17.<\/p>\n<p>Belive wrote a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/update\/urn:li:activity:7112397888764162049\/\">LinkedIn post<\/a> announcing her new role and what it would entail.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy role will be to lead our engagement in Washington and nationally,\u201d she wrote. \u201cWith regulatory landscapes evolving, it\u2019s paramount that we advocate for policies that not only support the crypto industry but also the countless individuals and businesses that could benefit from these advancements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more:<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/news\/ripple-abandons-plan-fortress-trust\">Ripple ditches plan to buy Fortress Trust<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/lauren-belive-ba355246\/\">Belive<\/a> was a policy director at the White House from April 2012 to May 2015, but she was in Barack Obama\u2019s orbit for far longer. The role she\u2019s taken at Ripple is similar to roles she\u2019s had at Lyft, Zoom and SoftBank.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"kraken-makes-moves-in-canada\">Kraken makes moves in Canada<\/h2>\n<p>This week was a busy one for Kraken, a San Francisco-based crypto exchange.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>First, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/news\/kraken-licenses-spain-ireland\">it received key crypto licenses in Ireland and Spain<\/a>. Just a day later, there were reports that <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/news\/kraken-stock-trading\">Kraken will offer stock trading by next year<\/a>, which will in no doubt put it in direct competition with Robinhood.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Then on Thursday, Kraken publicly <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.kraken.com\/news\/kraken-bolsters-its-canadian-offering\">announced<\/a> a new hire in Canada \u2014 one that\u2019s focused on keeping in step with regulation in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Dina Mainville will be joining Kraken\u2019s board of directors in Canada, also known as Payward Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Mainville has been a member of the Canadian Blockchain Consortium, a nonprofit lobbying group, since September 2020. Since then, she founded and chairs its regulatory committee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s also the founder and president of Collisionless, a Toronto-based professional services firm that specializes in blockchain technology and digital assets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kraken added that she\u2019s advised global Fortune 500 companies on blockchain initiatives and has \u201ctrained hundreds of government and law enforcement professionals on cryptocurrency forensic investigation strategies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part of this announcement, Kraken also expanded access to Interac e-Transfer \u2014 Canadians\u2019 method of electronically transferring money \u2014 to all Canadians on the mobile and web platforms. The firm is also reducing the Interac e-Transfer fee to 0.95% down from 1.5%.<\/p>\n<p>And in the coming days, there will be eight new digital assets that Candians can trade, including Sui, Audius and others.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"other-notable-hires\">Other notable hires<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Wednesday was Alex Chriss\u2019 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/acce\/status\/1707053986606465169?s=20\">first day<\/a> as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/news\/hiring-roundup-silvergate-paypal\">PayPal CEO and president<\/a>. He is taking control during <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/news\/paypal-stablecoin-slow-uptake\">the implementation of PayPal\u2019s stablecoin PYUSD<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Matteo Leibowitz, head of ventures at Uniswap Labs, said it was his last day after three years at the company in a Friday <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/teo_leibowitz\/status\/1707789881752387704\">post<\/a> on X.<\/li>\n<li>Swan Bitcoin, a BTC-only trading platform, announced that pro basketball player Matthew Dellavedova would be joining the firm as vice president of business development.
