{"id":178386,"date":"2023-10-21T07:08:41","date_gmt":"2023-10-21T01:38:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/?p=178386"},"modified":"2023-10-21T07:08:41","modified_gmt":"2023-10-21T01:38:41","slug":"etherfis-liquid-staking-token-live-on-goerli-ahead-of-mainnet-launch-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/etherfis-liquid-staking-token-live-on-goerli-ahead-of-mainnet-launch-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"EtherFi&#8217;s Liquid Staking Token Live On Goerli Ahead Of Mainnet Launch &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p>EtherFi\u2019s eETH token will offer exposure to both Ethereum staking and restaking<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>eETH, the highly-anticipated liquid staking token from EtherFi, is now live on Ethereum\u2019s Goerli testnet ahead of its Nov. 6 mainnet launch.<\/p>\n<p>Liquid staking tokens (LSTs) allow holders to access exposure to staking rewards without operating a node, and can also be used in DeFi protocols to generate extra yields. eETH differentiates itself from competitors by also offering holders exposure to restaking yields via <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/ethereum-restaking-protocol-eigenlayer-launches-on-mainnet\">EigenLayer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStaking with eETH on EtherFi automatically restakes on EigenLayer and accrues staking rewards while allowing users to use eETH in other DeFi protocols,\u201d EtherFi <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/respected-trowel-08c.notion.site\/Press-Release-eETH-Launch-62c1c231e8d647caa63144cc5b830b99\">said.<\/a> \u201cNo other liquid staking protocol has this capability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>EtherFi added that its technical architecture uses sharding to ensure that stakers retain control over their keys, whereas node operators generate the keys for rival LST protocols.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/metamask.io\/portfolio\/?utm_source=defiant&amp;utm_medium=display&amp;utm_campaign=MM_pDapp_Defiant_ROS&amp;utm_content=MM_pDapp_Defiant_728x90_Stake\" class=\"h-[58px] noprose mx-auto mb-8 mt-6 block w-[320px] overflow-hidden lg:hidden\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Lido faces new competition<\/h2>\n<p>eETH\u2019s impending mainnet launch comes as Lido, the top LST provider, is facing increasing criticism over refusing to self-limit its staking.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dune Analytics, Lido\u2019s validators control <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/dune.com\/LidoAnalytical\/Lido-Finance-Extended\">31.6%<\/a> of staked Ether\u2019s supply. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/liquidity-staking-derivatives-risks-ethereum\">Danny Ryan<\/a> of the Ethereum Foundation recently <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Y0ddkSa1ZuI\">warned<\/a> that any singular entity amassing a third of Staked Ether poses \u201ca systemic threat to Ethereum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt a third, if someone served those three operators at Lido\u2026 and they say \u2018shut it down\u2019, then we have an issue with liveness,\u201d Ryan said. \u201cIt&#8217;s where we begin to potentially have issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Oct. 13, EtherFi announced it will implement measures to self-limit its staking dominance at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/etherfi\/self-limiting-and-decentralization-roadmap-f44b9f016b1e\">25%<\/a> of both the staked Ether\u2019s supply and Ethereum\u2019s validator headcount into the protocol\u2019s smart contracts. Become a premium member of The Defiant and join our DeFi Alpha community.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list-inside list-disc\">\n<li>DeFi Daily | Weekdays<\/li>\n<li>DeFi Alpha Letter | Weekly<\/li>\n<li>Defiant Podcast Transcript | Weekly<\/li>\n<li>Inbox Dump | Saturday<\/li>\n<li>Weekly Recap | Sunday<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/thedefiant.io\/go-premium#pricing\" class=\"disabled:bg-cta-disabled-background disabled:text-cta-disabled-text rounded font-semibold border-cta-primary-border bg-cta-primary-background text-cta-primary-text hover:border-cta-primary-border-hover hover:bg-cta-primary-background-hover ml-auto block p-2 text-center text-sm !text-black !no-underline shadow-newButton\">Start for free<\/a><\/div>\n<h2>EigenLayer<\/h2>\n<p>EtherFi is betting that offering native restaking yields through EigenLayer will attract users away from LST incumbents.<\/p>\n<p>EigenLayer allows stakers and LST holders to earn additional revenue by securing an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kIeb66t59ng\">Actively Validated Service<\/a> (AVS) module.<\/p>\n<p>While Ethereum validators process transactions written in the Solidity programming language for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), EigenLayer leverages Ethereum\u2019s staking layer to validate non-EVM code through its AVS modules.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent appearance on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kIeb66t59ng\">The Defiant Podcast<\/a>, Sreeram Kannan, EigenLayer\u2019s founder, said the protocol is suited to \u201canything that requires a decentralized validation network,\u201d such as Layer 1 blockchains, DeFi protocols, or other web3 services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRestaking has the power to extend the Ethereum trust layer and help the network with decentralization and value accrual,\u201d EtherFi said.<\/p>\n<h2>Restaking Risks<\/h2>\n<p>While restaking offers additional rewards to users, the opportunity for extra profits comes with heightened smart contract and slashing risks.<\/p>\n<p>Eigenlayer users who secure an AVS operator that misbehaves will face slashing penalties, meaning they could lose a portion of their staked Ether due to the actions of third-party entities. Restakers also face slashing penalties if they fail to validate their chosen AVS modules.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStaking introduces both slashing and additional smart contract risk to stakers so it is something users should consider.\u201d Silagadze said. \u201cSo far, ETH staking slashing risk has been very close to zero, but this is not necessarily going to be the case with restaking services.
