The new reporting rules exclusively apply to businesses handling crypto assets and do not impact individuals.<\/p>\n<p>Crypto commentators have raised concerns over how to report the block rewards received for validating a blockchain network.<\/p>\n<p><!--$!--><!--\/$--><\/p>\n<p>Jerry Brito, executive director for Coincenter, a U.S.-based crypto advocacy think tank, also questioned how to report crypto received from large trades executed via decentralized exchanges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the 6050I law that Coin Center challenged in federal court and our case is in appeals,\u201d Brito\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jerrybrito\/status\/1742246481661235627?s=20\">tweeted<\/a>. \u201cUnfortunately for the time being there is an obligation to comply \u2013 but it&#8217;s unclear how one can comply\u2026 What if you receive funds from a block reward or a DEX transaction? Who do you report as the sender?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shehan Chandrasekera, the head of tax at Cointracker, a crypto tax software provider,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TheCryptoCPA\/status\/1742335928033513481?s=20\">highlighted<\/a>\u00a0that the new rule could impact the operations of validators operating staking pools within the U.S.<\/p>\n<h2>U.S. regulators take aim at web3<\/h2>\n<p>The U.S. Treasury Department, of which the IRS comprises a major bureau, is increasing its efforts to clamp down on the crypto sector.<\/p>\n<p>On Nov. 29, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/home.treasury.gov\/news\/press-releases\/jy1933\">sanctioned<\/a> a crypto mixer dubbed Sinbad after alleging North Korean state-sponsored criminal organization Lazarus Group had used it to process millions of dollars in stolen funds.<\/p>\n<p>The move followed the OFAC adding decentralized code to its list of Specially Designated Nations for the first time  in August 2022 when it sanctioned the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/tornado-cash-us-sanctions\">Tornado Cash<\/a>\u00a0crypto mixing protocol.<\/p>\n<div class=\"relative flex items-center gap-2 rounded-md bg-[#191919] p-2 my-4 lg:hidden\">\n<div class=\"relative group  flex w-max items-center gap-2  p-2 text-sm text-white mx-auto\"><strong class=\"whitespace-nowrap w-min sm:w-auto bg-gradient-to-r from-[#9FF9D2] to-[#DB9FF9] bg-clip-text text-transparent\">DeFi Alpha<\/strong><span class=\"whitespace-nowrap  w-min sm:w-auto border-l border-white pl-1 lg:hidden\">Premium Content<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"tooltip font-heading shadow-cta absolute hidden lg:visible left-6 z-10 -top-[80px] w-max max-w-xs translate-y-full flex-col rounded-lg bg-[#EEEEF4] p-3 text-left text-xs text-black group-hover:flex lg:left-auto lg:right-4\">Looking for Alpha? Warren claimed cryptocurrencies comprise an essential component of Hamas&#8217;s operational activities.
