The artwork is meant to evolve over time in a deterministic manner, thanks to a technique dubbed Evolving Inscriptions.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.quantumcats.xyz\/\" class=\"no-underline\"><\/p>\n<figure><figcaption class=\"text-center text-xs\">Quantum Cats<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the technique, the total cost of inscribing the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.quantumcats.xyz\/collection\">collection<\/a> on the Bitcoin blockchain reached a whopping $66,000. The cost was high because of all the data that was initially inscribed \u2013 the collection uses 10 MB of data. Different versions of Quantum Cats are inscribed ahead of time, evolving as per the Op_Cat proposal process.<\/p>\n<p><!--$!--><!--\/$--><\/p>\n<h2>Connection to Satoshi<\/h2>\n<p>According to Udi Wertheimer, co-founder of the Taproot Wizards, \u201cOp_Cat\u201d is an old line of code used in Bitcoin during the days of Satoshi. It is an abbreviation for concatenate \u201cin nerd speak,\u201d said Udi in an interview.<\/p>\n<p>Op_Cat was a scripting function that was disabled in 2010. It has now resurfaced as discussions over Covenants \u2013 a proposal that could enable Layer-2s, smart contracts and bridges to be built on Bitcoin \u2013 have emerged within the ecosystem<\/p>\n<p>Wertheimer added that the images are encrypted so no one can see what future evolutions look like until they\u2019re revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Created by digital artist FAR, the 1\/1 \u201cGenesis Cat\u201d has been chosen to be featured in a Sotheby\u2019s auction. The auction <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sothebys.com\/en\/buy\/auction\/2024\/natively-digital-an-ordinals-curated-sale\/genesis-cat\">kicked off<\/a> today and will close on Jan. 22. Maximalists staunchly critique them for allegedly <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/bitcoin-forks-rally-as-fees-spike-on-world-s-most-valuable-blockchain\">spamming<\/a> the blockchain, whereas Inscriptions sparked a flurry of activity across the network.<\/p>\n<p>In late November, Taproot Wizards announced a $7.5M funding round led by Standard Capital and supported by UTXO Management and the Bitcoin Frontier Fund, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Udi\u2019s co-founder at Taproot Wizards, Eric Wall, said that Op_Cat and the Quantum Cats collection live at the center of the ambition to bring a non-custodial, scalable future \u201cthat Bitcoin deserves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The collection goes live on Jan. 24.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The collection of 3,333 images will change over time thanks to a technique called Evolving Inscriptions.
