The X social media account of the Algorand Foundation\u2019s chief executive has been hacked, marking the third major exploit of crypto-related X accounts this month.<\/p>\n
In a new thread<\/a>, the firm behind smart contract platform Algorand (ALGO<\/a>) has announced that the X account of Staci Warden, the company\u2019s CEO, has been hacked and warns against interacting with it.<\/p>\n \u201c[Staci Warden\u2019s] account has been compromised. Please do not click on any links on her account or respond to DMs (direct messages). We are in the process of recovering it.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n Some of the hacker\u2019s messages include a reposted link to a recording titled \u201cpuppets ruined Bitcoin\u201d and one that falsely claims<\/a> Warden has been fired from Algorand and lost her affiliates.<\/p>\n The hacking of Warden\u2019s account marks the third time in January that bad actors went after the social media accounts of crypto executives or regulators.<\/p>\n On January 9th, an exploiter gained<\/a> access to the X account of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), falsely claiming at the time that the regulatory agency had approved spot market Bitcoin (BTC<\/a>) exchange-traded funds.<\/p>\n Furthermore, on January 18th, a hacker took over the X account of supply chain-focused blockchain VeChain (VET<\/a>) to promote<\/a> a fake giveaway, asking traders to send between 100,000 and 5,000,000 VET to an \u201cofficial contribution address.\u201d<\/p>\n News of the hack didn\u2019t appear to have an impact on the price of ALGO as the digital asset is trading for $0.167 at time of writing, a 4.2% gain during the last 24 hours.<\/p>\n Don’t Miss a Beat \u2013 Subscribe<\/a> to get email alerts delivered directly to your inbox <\/span><\/em>
