{"id":238734,"date":"2024-01-31T07:22:01","date_gmt":"2024-01-31T01:52:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/?p=238734"},"modified":"2024-01-31T07:22:01","modified_gmt":"2024-01-31T01:52:01","slug":"ethereums-dencun-upgrade-goes-live-on-sepolia-without-a-hitch-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/ethereums-dencun-upgrade-goes-live-on-sepolia-without-a-hitch-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Ethereum\u2019s Dencun Upgrade Goes Live On Sepolia Without A Hitch &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dencun\u2019s final testnet deployment will take place on Feb. 7.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Ethereum\u2019s Dencun upgrade is now live on the Sepolia testnet following a smooth deployment.<\/p>\n<p>Dencun went live on Sepolia on Jan. 30, marking the second of three testnet deployments for the highly-anticipated upgrade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSepolia has finalized,\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/terencechain\/status\/1752467786050511119\">tweeted<\/a>\u00a0Terence Tsao of Prysmatic Labs, the team behind the Ethereum client, Prysm. \u201cSorry for an uneventful upgrade.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBlobs are now flowing in Sepolia,\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/parithosh_j\/status\/1752468658868126030\">tweeted<\/a>\u00a0Paritosh, a DevOps engineer at the Ethereum Foundation. \u201cUneventful testnet forks are the best ones!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--$!--><!--\/$--><\/p>\n<p>The fork follows a somewhat rocky initial dress rehearsal on the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/dencun-finalizes-on-goerli-after-rocky-fork\">Goerli testnet<\/a>\u00a0on Jan. 17. The Goerli fork triggered a network split resulting from a bug encountered by the Prysm client. Developers rectified the incident several hours after the fork&#8217;s initiation.<\/p>\n<p>Dencun final testnet deployment will take place on Ethereum\u2019s Holesky testnet come Feb. 7.<\/p>\n<h2>EIP-4844<\/h2>\n<p>Dencun will significantly improve data availability and reduce the fees associated with transacting on Layer 2 by replacing gas-intensive calldata with blobs via the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/ethereum-scaling-eip-4844\">EIP-4844<\/a>\u00a0upgrade, also dubbed proto-danksharding.<\/p>\n<p>The upgrade positions Ethereum\u2019s Layer 2 ecosystem to compete with the transaction fees offered by alternative Layer 1s while inheriting the benefits of the Ethereum\u2019s mainnet robust security layer. <\/p>\n<p>A recent increase in\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/ethereum-throughput-tags-record-high-as-burn-rate-drives-down-eth-supply\">on-chain activity<\/a>\u00a0has driven up Layer 2 transaction costs, with gas fees up between roughly 50% and 100% since mid-October on many leading L2s including Arbitrum, OP Mainnet, and Base, according to data from\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.growthepie.xyz\/fundamentals\/transaction-costs\">GrowThePie<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In an appearance on<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/podcasts\">\u00a0The Defiant Podcast<\/a>, Carl Beekhuizen of the Ethereum Foundation described the cost of storing data on-chain as the primary bottleneck restricting the scalability gains available at Layer 2.<\/p>\n<p><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"relative flex items-center gap-2 rounded-md bg-[#191919] p-2 my-4 lg:hidden\">\n<div class=\"relative group  flex w-max items-center gap-2  p-2 text-sm text-white mx-auto\"><strong class=\"whitespace-nowrap w-min sm:w-auto bg-gradient-to-r from-[#9FF9D2] to-[#DB9FF9] bg-clip-text text-transparent\">DeFi Alpha<\/strong><span class=\"whitespace-nowrap  w-min sm:w-auto border-l border-white pl-1 lg:hidden\">Premium Content<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"tooltip font-heading shadow-cta absolute hidden lg:visible left-6 z-10 -top-[80px] w-max max-w-xs translate-y-full flex-col rounded-lg bg-[#EEEEF4] p-3 text-left text-xs text-black group-hover:flex lg:left-auto lg:right-4\">Looking for Alpha?
