{"id":238907,"date":"2024-01-31T14:42:43","date_gmt":"2024-01-31T09:12:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/?p=238907"},"modified":"2024-01-31T14:42:43","modified_gmt":"2024-01-31T09:12:43","slug":"top-hollywood-agency-wme-taps-ai-startup-vermillio-to-combat-ai-deepfakes-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/top-hollywood-agency-wme-taps-ai-startup-vermillio-to-combat-ai-deepfakes-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Top Hollywood Agency WME Taps AI Startup Vermillio to Combat AI Deepfakes &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"position:relative;overflow:visible;font-size:1.2em;line-height:1.58\">\n<p class=\"font-meta-serif-pro scene:font-noto-sans scene:text-base scene:md:text-lg font-normal text-lg md:text-xl md:leading-9 tracking-px text-body gg-dark:text-neutral-100\">As celebrities wage an increasingly fierce fight to combat AI-generated deepfakes\u2014perhaps most notoriously <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/01\/30\/the-taylor-swift-deepfake-debacle-was-frustratingly-preventable\/\" class=\"sc-adb616fe-0 iLQIVg\">Taylor Swift last week<\/a>\u2014prominent talent agency WME announced a deal with Chicago-based tech company <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/vermill.io\/\" class=\"sc-adb616fe-0 iLQIVg\">Vermillio<\/a> that aims to better arm the performers they represent from having their images manipulated and exploited online.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-meta-serif-pro scene:font-noto-sans scene:text-base scene:md:text-lg font-normal text-lg md:text-xl md:leading-9 tracking-px text-body gg-dark:text-neutral-100\">The deal with Vermillio, <i>The<\/i> <i>New York Times<\/i> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/01\/30\/business\/media\/ai-hollywood-artist-protection.html\" class=\"sc-adb616fe-0 iLQIVg\">reported<\/a> on Tuesday, will allow WME to inject a digital tracker called Trace ID into images of its clients, which can then be used to monitor and identify authentic images\u2014conversely giving them a way to protect and monetize their likeness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-meta-serif-pro scene:font-noto-sans scene:text-base scene:md:text-lg font-normal text-lg md:text-xl md:leading-9 tracking-px text-body gg-dark:text-neutral-100\">While details on how the technology works are sparse, Vermillio\u2019s Trace ID utilizes blockchain technology to record and track images, the\u00a0<i>Times<\/i> said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-meta-serif-pro scene:font-noto-sans scene:text-base scene:md:text-lg font-normal text-lg md:text-xl md:leading-9 tracking-px text-body gg-dark:text-neutral-100\">\u201cWe have been at this for a while to try and tackle this issue so that our clients have protections in place to at least start to address what is clearly a rampant issue,\u201d WME\u2019s head of digital strategies, Chris Jacquemin, told the newspaper. \u201cYou have no real ability to stop it other than manually stumbling across it,\u201d adding that Vermillio automates the process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-meta-serif-pro scene:font-noto-sans scene:text-base scene:md:text-lg font-normal text-lg md:text-xl md:leading-9 tracking-px text-body gg-dark:text-neutral-100\">WME and Vermillio have not yet responded to <i>Decrypt\u2019s<\/i> request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-meta-serif-pro scene:font-noto-sans scene:text-base scene:md:text-lg font-normal text-lg md:text-xl md:leading-9 tracking-px text-body gg-dark:text-neutral-100\">A deepfake is an increasingly common video or audio content created or manipulated with artificial intelligence that depicts false events.
