Pudgy Penguins, which were first minted around the same time as Bored Apes, continue to roll.<\/p>\n<p>This trend shows itself in the convergence of the two projects\u2019 floor prices. A collection\u2019s floor price is the lowest price for which a collector could acquire a piece in the collection on secondary markets. As of Monday morning, Bored Ape\u2019s floor price in dollar terms was $57,469, while Pudgy Penguins\u2019 was $51,730, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nftpricefloor.com\/\">according<\/a> to data from NFT Price Floor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more:<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/news\/bored-ape-event-laser-injuries\">ApeFest marred by reports of eye and skin injuries<\/a><\/p>\n<p>What some have <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/tryPluid\/status\/1756984887368642578?s=20\">dubbed<\/a> a potential \u201cflappening\u201d is being enabled in part by greater trading interest in Pudgy Penguins. The project has seen over 2,000 sales in the past month, compared to 886 for Bored Apes, per NFT Price Floor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Data from the pseudonymous researcher NFTstats.eth on X <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/punk9059\/status\/1756908263637938324?s=20\">showed<\/a> that a year and a half ago, the Bored Apes floor price was roughly 100 times that of Pudgy Penguins.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the time between, Pudgy Penguins CEO Luca Netz has worked to carve a distinct lane for Pudgies as a more expansive intellectual propoerty brand. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/news\/pudgy-penguins-ip-raise\">Netz raised a $9 million seed round<\/a> on this vision in May 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLuca Netz is a serial entrepreneur with expertise in marketing and e-commerce. He has a clear vision for Pudgy [Penguins]: to transform it into a highly successful intellectual property brand,\u201d Nicol\u00e1s Lallement, co-founder of NFT Price Floor, told Blockworks. \u201cHe seems to be [successfully] executing his plan so far.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pudgy Penguins has released toy versions of its <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/tag\/nfts\">NFTs<\/a> which started selling in Walmart stores in September 2023.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more: <\/strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/news\/pudgy-penguins-walmart-debut\">Pudgy Penguins waddle their way into 2,000 Walmart locations<\/a><\/p>\n<p>More recently, Pudgy Penguins teased the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/news\/solana-bitcoin-exceed-ethereum-nft-sales\">open-world game Pudgy World<\/a>, currently <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/pudgy-penguins-announces-pudgy-world-alpha-powered-by-zksync-at-art-basel-miami-302010721.html\">slated<\/a> for a Q1 2024 release. The game will use Pudgy\u2019s NFT intellectual property and apparently will be <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ppmctweets\/status\/1753630485924692346?s=20\">compatible<\/a> with the Apple Vision Pro.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/tag\/bored-ape-yacht-club\">Bored Ape Yacht Club<\/a>, meanwhile, is owned by Yuga Labs, which saw a hitch in one of its major initiatives last week.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/tag\/yuga-labs\">Yuga<\/a> has recently been developing a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blockworks.co\/tag\/metaverse\">metaverse<\/a> named Otherside. Last week, an Otherside-developed game called Legends of the Mara announced that users could claim collectibles earned during gameplay. Users rushed to mint the NFTs on Ethereum, but elevated gas costs meant that some ended up <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EverydayZukini\/status\/1755706071954620450?s=20\">paying<\/a> large amounts of gas for the free collectible.<\/p>\n<p>Yuga\u2019s Chief Gaming Officer Spencer Tucker said the studio would give all affected users a different free collectible to make up for the high gas cost, but the game\u2019s community members <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/0xWaldox0\/status\/1755717698254684452?s=20\">complained<\/a> doing so would dilute the value of the initial NFT run.<\/p>\n<p>A few hours later, Yuga reversed course to simply refund the gas fees. \u201cThanks for calling us on our shit and bearing with us,\u201d Yuga Labs co-founder Greg Solano <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CryptoGarga\/status\/1755777645122330869\">said<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Development teams aside, there may be a more abstract force contributing to Bored Ape\u2019s fall and Pudgy Penguins\u2019 rise: coolness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYuga needs to make Apes globally cool again like they were just a short time ago.
