On Thursday, a collection of tokenized artwork from the Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orsay\u2019s first-ever commission of an on-chain exhibition will hit the market\u2014the product of two experimental artists, months of coordination by the museum\u2019s leadership, and thousands of exhales from unknowing strangers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The pieces, five single-edition NFTs minted on the <\/span>Tezos<\/span><\/a> blockchain collectively titled \u201cThe Convergence of Breath,\u201d are the fruits of an art installation (and partial social experiment) now on display at Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orsay, which features in the museum\u2019s ongoing, digital-themed exhibition, <\/span>\u201cLe Code d\u2019Orsay.\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n The installation, a steel sculpture titled \u201cSigma Lumina,\u201d was created by the French artist and DJ S\u00e9bastian Devaud (aka Agoria) in collaboration with the artist Johan Lescure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n When hit by the perfect alignment of light from above, the sculpture produces a QR code in its shadow; curious museum patrons who scan the QR code are then directed to mint a unique, free NFT riffing on other Impressionist works on display at the Orsay\u2014but if, and only if, they breathe into their phones to help generate it.<\/span><\/p>\n On a recent trip to the exhibition, this <\/span>Decrypt<\/span><\/i> reporter did in fact find numerous Orsay patrons, ranging from children to the elderly, blowing on smartphones with bemused expressions.<\/span><\/p>\n Agoria and Lescure have now taken the data from those blows\u2014so far, over 2,000 \u201cSigma Lumina\u201d NFTs have been minted by museum visitors\u2014and synthesized them into a series of five unique NFTs, one for each week of the exhibition\u2019s run.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI love the fact that all the blows of all the people coming [to the exhibition] are now connected together, to create a global piece,\u201d <\/span>Agoria<\/span><\/a>\u00a0told <\/span>Decrypt<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The five \u201cConvergence of Breath\u201d NFTs will go on sale Thursday at 5pm CET on <\/span>Objkt.One<\/span><\/a>, a curated platform for one-of-one on-chain artworks. \u201cLe Code d\u2019Orsay\u201d runs at the Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orsay through March 10.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
