{"id":274689,"date":"2024-03-31T00:56:13","date_gmt":"2024-03-30T19:26:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/?p=274689"},"modified":"2024-03-31T00:56:13","modified_gmt":"2024-03-30T19:26:13","slug":"wells-fargo-accused-of-overcharging-thousands-of-customers-concealing-predatory-practice-for-more-than-10-years-new-lawsuit-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/wells-fargo-accused-of-overcharging-thousands-of-customers-concealing-predatory-practice-for-more-than-10-years-new-lawsuit-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Wells Fargo Accused of Overcharging Thousands of Customers, Concealing Predatory Practice for More Than 10 Years: New Lawsuit &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A new lawsuit accuses banking giant Wells Fargo of overcharging thousands of customers on credit card interest rates and fees for more than a decade.<\/p>\n<p>The class action lawsuit, filed by plaintiffs Carmin Nowlin, Tamika Haley and Jesus Rodriguez, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.classaction.org\/media\/nowlin-et-al-v-wells-fargo-bank-na.pdf\">alleges<\/a> the bank charged active US military service members interest rates and fees that were above levels set by the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA).<\/p>\n<p>The SCRA ensures that any debts a service member incurred before being called to active duty will have their interest rates reduced to 6%. This reduction applies from the date of deployment and lasts throughout the entire period of active duty. Additionally, banks are required to permanently forgive interest over 6%, under the act.<\/p>\n<p>According to the plaintiffs, Wells Fargo specifically marketed itself to service members \u2013 particularly those who were being deployed overseas \u2013 and quietly overcharged for more than a decade.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cDefendant breached its statutory and contractual duties to America\u2019s fighting forces by charging interest rates and fees that were too high, allowing unlawful charges to improperly inflate servicemembers\u2019 principal balances, and charging compound interest on these inflated balances.
