The previous figure stood at 53.1.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the flash\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fxstreet.com\/news\/us-sp-global-pmis-preview-manufacturing-survey-expected-to-stay-below-50-in-august-202308230737\"><strong>PMI<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0data, Chris Williamson, Chief Business Economist at S&amp;P Global Market Intelligence said: \u201cEarly <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fxstreet.com\/economic-calendar\/united-states\" data-fxs-autoanchor=\"\">PMI<\/a> survey data for April indicate that the UK economy&#8217;s recovery from recession last year continued to gain momentum. \u2018<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImproved growth in the service sector offset a renewed downturn in manufacturing to propel overall business growth to the fastest for nearly a year, indicating that GDP is rising at a quarterly rate of 0.4% after a 0.3% gain in the first quarter,\u201d Chris added.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"fxs_headline_medium\">FX implications<\/h2>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fxstreet.com\/currencies\/gbpusd\"><strong>GBP\/USD<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is extending the advance toward 1.2400 following the mixed UK PMI data.
