Data from Arkham Intelligence shows wallets associated with Vitalik Buterin and Coinbase among the owners of seemingly forgotten bridged assets.<\/p>\n

Millions of dollars are sitting untouched in blockchain bridge contracts,\u00a0according to data from Arkham Intelligence, an on-chain analytics platform.<\/p>\n

On April 22, Arkham\u00a0tweeted<\/a>\u00a0a list of wallets associated with prominent web3 entities that collectively hold nearly $4 million worth of assets that have remained dormant on blockchain bridges for\u00a0between\u00a0five months and more than two years.<\/p>\n

The list included wallets associated with Vitalik Buterin \u2014 Ethereum’s chief\u00a0scientist,\u00a0Coinbase \u2014 a leading crypto exchange, and Bofur Capital \u2014 believed to be a sizable Celsius creditor.<\/p>\n

“There are dozens of accounts with 6-7 figures stuck in bridge contracts, forgotten about,”\u00a0Arkham said.\u00a0\u201cIf\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0on this list, you may have misplaced a few million dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michael Rodrigues, a DeFi analyst at\u00a0EasyFi,\u00a0told The Defiant that investors may be intentionally positioning the funds in anticipation of future market moves.<\/p>\n

\u201cInstant liquidity or access to other blockchains would offer a competitive advantage,\u201d\u00a0Rodrigues said.\u00a0“In times of increased market volatility, keeping assets in a bridge contract can be a form of hedging against price variations across different networks.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Rodrigues also conceded that owners of the assets may have\u00a0simply\u00a0forgotten about their bridged funds.\u00a0\u201cA pricey mistake by any standard,\u201d\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n

Crypto holdings left\u00a0untouched<\/h2>\n

One wallet that previously received 50 ETH from Vitalik.eth has not touched a stash of $1.05 million in Ether since depositing the funds to Optimism’s bridge seven months ago.<\/p>\n

Should the account belong to Buterin, Arkham data indicates that the sum represents a small portion of his crypto holdings \u2014\u00a0which\u00a0are\u00a0estimated\u00a0at $789 million\u00a0in total.\u00a0\u201cVitalik, if you own this address, PSA: you have a million dollars of ETH in the Optimism bridge,\u201d\u00a0Arkham said.<\/p>\n

A wallet associated with Bofur Capital \u2013 a company bearing the same name as a large Celsius creditor \u2013 also left 27 BTC worth $1.8 million in the Arbitrum bridge for two years and three months.<\/p>\n

Thomasg.eth, a founder of the decentralized aviation\u00a0project,\u00a0Arrow, has similarly left $800,000 worth of ETH untouched on the same bridge.<\/p>\n

Even Coinbase, the top U.S. centralized exchange, has left 75,000 USDC in limbo after bridging from Optimism to Ethereum.<\/p>\n
