{"id":293028,"date":"2024-04-30T22:48:52","date_gmt":"2024-04-30T17:18:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/?p=293028"},"modified":"2024-04-30T22:48:52","modified_gmt":"2024-04-30T17:18:52","slug":"coinbase-rolls-out-bitcoins-lightning-network-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/coinbase-rolls-out-bitcoins-lightning-network-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Coinbase Rolls Out Bitcoin\u2019s Lightning Network &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The integration comes thanks to a partnership with Lightningspark. <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Coinbase <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coinbase.com\/blog\/coinbase-integrates-bitcoins-lightning-network-in-partnership-with\">rolled out<\/a> support for Bitcoin\u2019s Lightning Network today.<\/p>\n<p>A <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coinbase.com\/blog\/coinbase-integrates-bitcoins-lightning-network-in-partnership-with\">blog post<\/a> by Coinbase said that using the Lightning Network reduces the cost of sending BTC more than 20 times less the average 2% credit card charges, and an even larger fraction of the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nerdwallet.com\/article\/banking\/wire-transfers-what-banks-charge\">$30 paid<\/a> by users on wire transfers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to announce that Lightning is now live on Coinbase,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ViktorBunin\/status\/1785310221537067351\">posted<\/a> Viktor Bunin today, protocol specialist for Coinbase. \u201cI could not be more proud of the team for shipping it so quickly. Growing Bitcoin adoption increases economic freedom in the world. This is my personal life mission and the mission for all of us at Coinbase.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\/exchanges\">According to CoinGecko<\/a>, Coinbase is the fifth largest crypto exchange by 24-hour volume, and remains the largest platform to buy and sell digital assets in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Integrating the Lightning Network could help to see a massive influx of users to the protocol, along with Coinbase becoming one of Lightning Network\u2019s top liquidity providers, creating a virtuous circle of additional users and additional capital flowing through channels.<\/p>\n<p>According to Bunin, the crypto exchange began looking into adding support for the Lightning Network in August 2023, and made the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ViktorBunin\/status\/1785310658977829212\">final decision<\/a> to add it into the company\u2019s tech stack in September.<\/p>\n<p>The Lightning Network is a Bitcoin Layer 2 that allows for users to send units of Bitcoin (known as satoshis) instantly and at near-zero cost. It was originally touted as the savior to Bitcoin\u2019s scaling issues, but adoption has remained slow\u2013due to concerns with usability, and the general sentiment that Bitcoin continues to be in a store-of-value phase.<\/p>\n<p>Coinbase\u2019s integration could help to buck the trend.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The integration comes thanks to a partnership with Lightningspark.
