{"id":304878,"date":"2024-05-18T23:50:44","date_gmt":"2024-05-18T18:20:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/?p=304878"},"modified":"2024-05-18T23:50:44","modified_gmt":"2024-05-18T18:20:44","slug":"wells-fargo-hands-fake-100-bill-to-customer-issues-alert-on-worthless-withdrawal-and-counterfeit-cash-report-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/wells-fargo-hands-fake-100-bill-to-customer-issues-alert-on-worthless-withdrawal-and-counterfeit-cash-report-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Wells Fargo Hands Fake $100 Bill To Customer,\u00a0Issues Alert on Worthless Withdrawal and Counterfeit Cash: Report &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A Wells Fargo customer says she\u2019s shocked after the banking giant gave her fake cash during a seemingly routine withdrawal.<\/p>\n<p>Kam Ridley recently went to a Wells Fargo branch in Mississippi to withdraw cash and pay bills, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wapt.com\/article\/mississippi-woman-withdraws-counterfeit-100-bill-from-bank\/60812585\">reports<\/a> the ABC-affiliated news station WAPT.<\/p>\n<p>Ridley then went to her other bank, Trustmark, to deposit the cash \u2013 but the ATM refused to accept her $100 bill.<\/p>\n<p>Bewildered, Ridley went inside the bank and spoke to a teller who told her the money from Wells Fargo is obviously fake.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhen I give it to the teller, she says, \u2018Oh, I can\u2019t take it. It\u2019s counterfeit.\u2019 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I was like, \u2018Girl, no. No.\u2019 I said, \u2018Run the little marker thing over it.\u2019 And she said, \u2018I don\u2019t have to. I\u2019m looking at it. It\u2019s counterfeit.&#8217;\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In response to the incident, Wells Fargo released a statement on its efforts to scan paper money and fight fraud.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c[Wells Fargo] takes great measures to educate our employees on how to identify and alert authorities to counterfeit currency. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We are committed to working closely with law enforcement officials to stop counterfeiters.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Although Wells Fargo acknowledged the fraud, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.helpwithmybank.gov\/help-topics\/branch-services\/currency-bills-coins\/counterfeit-bill.html\">says<\/a> customers who discover their bank gave them fake money may be out of luck and unable to prove what happened.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cUnfortunately, this circumstance would be a factual dispute.
