Apple rolled out a number of major upgrades for iPhones with the iOS 17.5 update last week. However, soon after the update rolled out, users on social media started complaining about many previously deleted pictures resurfacing on their iPhones and other Apple devices, while also raising questions about Apple’s privacy policy.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
The issue first came to the fore via a Thread on the r\/iOS subreddit where the poster stated that some NSFW picture pictures that were deleted by them years ago had resurfaced after the iOS 17.5 update.<\/p>\n
The poster wrote, \u201cWhen in conversation with my partner, I went to send a picture and saw that the latest pictures were NSFW material we\u2019d made years ago when we were living apart. It was permanently deleted years ago, but magically it\u2019s back? I checked my iPad and it also has pictures (some art work I did years ago). I feel so uncomfortable.”<\/p>\n
The ensuing thread is full of users who state that they were facing a similar issue. One user stated they were seeing four pictures from 2010 that kept resurfacing after the iOS 17.5 update.<\/p>\n
The user wrote, \u201cSame here. I have four pics from 2010 that keep reappearing as the latest pics uploaded to iCloud. I have deleted them repeatedly.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, one user also stated that they had a \u2018bunch of photos\u2019 that had disappeared recently but came back after the latest software update.<\/p>\n
The user wrote, \u201cOpposite situation here. Had a bunch of photos disappear recently (not deleted, they just disappeared). I was told by Apple that iOS update would make them come back. And it did!!!”<\/p>\n
Moreover, some users who claim to have never used iClouds or aren’t currently saving their data on the Apple service claim that even they are seeing previously deleted pictures as recent images after iOS 17.5 update.<\/p>\n
A user on X (formerly Twitter) by the name \u2018Stacey\u2019 shared that the issue went beyond just pictures and they saw a reappearance of previously deleted voicemails.<\/p>\n
According to Apple’s support page, when users delete a picture or video from Photos on iCloud, it is also deleted from all other devices with iCloud turned on. Moreover, the company says users have 30 days to recover these pictures before they are \u2018permanently deleted\u2019.<\/p>\n
Note: An email sent to Apple on the matter of iOS 17.5 recovering previously deleted pictures remained unanswered.<\/p>\n
