The cryptoverse woke up to a tragic announcement this morning: the Shiba Inu who inspired Dogecoin (DOGE<\/a>) has died.<\/p>\n Kabosu, the photogenic Japanese Shiba Inu who inspired countless Internet memes and eventually the DOGE memecoin, took her final nap this morning shortly before 8 am, according to her owner\u2019s\u00a0blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cKabo-chan<\/em><\/p>\n Today May 24<\/em><\/p>\n At 7:50 am<\/em><\/p>\n I fell asleep\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n Outside the window<\/em><\/p>\n Birds sing<\/em><\/p>\n In a beautiful morning<\/em><\/p>\n Stroked me<\/em><\/p>\n To sleep<\/em><\/p>\n It has gone softly\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Kabuso was 18 years old, 126 in dog years.<\/p>\n The official Dogecoin X account\u00a0shared<\/a>\u00a0the following post in her memory:<\/p>\n \u201cToday\u00a0Kabosu, our community\u2019s shared friend and inspiration, peacefully passed in the arms of her person. In 2010, she shared a seemingly unremarkable Kabuso photoshoot<\/a>. Little did she know \u2013 she was about to forever change the Internet.<\/p>\n The adorable Shiba Inu inspired more memes than could possibly be measured. Eventually, the internet joke became a cryptocurrency that far outgrew its founders\u2019 expectations<\/a> and intentions. That memecoin inspired the owner of an electric car company to believe in crypto<\/a>, pushing digital assets deeper into mainstream consciousness.
