{"id":316131,"date":"2024-06-04T05:32:53","date_gmt":"2024-06-04T00:02:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/?p=316131"},"modified":"2024-06-04T05:32:53","modified_gmt":"2024-06-04T00:02:53","slug":"bank-to-the-stars-facing-770000000-lawsuit-for-allegedly-aiding-ponzi-scheme-ignoring-glaring-red-flags-report-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/bank-to-the-stars-facing-770000000-lawsuit-for-allegedly-aiding-ponzi-scheme-ignoring-glaring-red-flags-report-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Bank to the Stars&#8217; Facing $770,000,000 Lawsuit for Allegedly Aiding Ponzi Scheme, Ignoring Glaring Red Flags: Report &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A lender known as the \u201cbank to the stars\u201d is being sued for $770 million for allegedly aiding and abetting a Hollywood Ponzi scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Plaintiffs for the lawsuit accuse the Los Angeles-based lender City National Bank (CNB) of enabling a fraudulent scheme that bilked hundreds of investors, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/story\/2024-05-28\/city-national-bank-sued-for-nearly-800-million-over-hollywood-ponzi-scheme\">reports<\/a> the Los Angeles Times.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit alleges CNB provided millions of dollars in loans to Zachary Horwitz, the mastermind of a film-licensing scheme that fleeced more than $690 million from friends, family and other investors.<\/p>\n<p>In February, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/litigation\/litreleases\/lr-25973\">announced<\/a> Horwitz had been convicted of violating multiple securities laws for duping victims with claims that investors would see more than 35% returns from his business of selling movie rights to Netflix and HBO. But in reality, Horwitz never sold any movie rights to the streaming services and used the money to fund his luxurious lifestyle and satisfy earlier investors.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit claims that between 2013 and 2019, the lender processed $1 billion in transactions for Hortwitz, issued $64.2 million in loans and gave him 456 credit extensions.<\/p>\n<p>The bank also allegedly ignored \u201cglaring red flags\u201d and \u201cbent the rules\u201d for Horwitz throughout the years while substantially assisting him by \u201cadding an air of legitimacy\u201d to his Ponzi scheme.
