Meme stock influencer Keith Gill, aka Roaring Kitty<\/a>, flexed his enduring influence over odd corners of the stock market this week, as the much-hyped airdrop for Ethereum<\/a> layer-2 network Blast<\/a> appeared to fall flat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After a prolonged period of silence, GameStop bull Roaring Kitty abruptly returned to Twitter on Thursday with an enigmatic, wordless post of a cartoon dog.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Within a span of 15 minutes, the (forgive us) dog whistle sent major pet care stocks surging<\/a>. Chewy, Inc. instantly soared 33%, Petco pumped 14%, and PetMed Express saw a 7% bump.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Those jumps collectively created several billions of dollars worth of value within minutes. Just as quickly, however, the gains were erased.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As is increasingly common with such phenomena, a Solana<\/a> meme coin also by the name of the CHEWY surged some 11,000% on the news cycle. Curiously, some traders appear to have bought up the token before Roaring Kitty made his canine-themed post.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Similarly opportune trades appear to have been made on CHEWY\u2019s stock earlier this week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since Monday, large blocks of $CHWY<\/a> $30c 7\/19 were followed.<\/p>\n

Could this be RoaringKitty of $GME<\/a> again? We don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n

But they have made millions.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in the cryptoverse proper, this week saw the long-awaited launch of Blast\u2019s native token, via a free airdrop of some 17 billion newly minted BLAST tokens.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many expected the event to be the free money event of the summer. And while it was certainly nothing to scoff at\u2014early trading prices pegged the airdrop at a collective value of $354 million\u2014many Blast users were <\/span>sorely disappointed<\/span><\/a> with those figures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The disappointment likely stemmed from <\/span>previous, <\/span>sky-high expectations<\/span><\/a> for the token, which were based on the Blast network\u2019s popularity among crypto whales and the <\/span>exorbitant sums<\/span><\/a> collected during the airdrop for Blast\u2019s predecessor Blur\u2014the disruptive, incentivized NFT marketplace.<\/span><\/p>\n

As soon as BLAST debuted on Wednesday morning, the token experienced a massive sell-off, which only served to plunge its price further. That’s common for airdrops\u2014but again, the massive expectations amplified the initial malaise.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some Blast ecosystem stakeholders, however\u2014such as savvy <\/span>Fantasy Top<\/span><\/a> player <\/span>Jenndefer<\/span><\/a>\u2014pushed back on the narrative that the Blast airdrop failed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jenndefer emphasized, within hours of BLAST\u2019s lackluster debut, that while many Blast users had dumped the new token, many whales in the ecosystem remained committed to it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

BLAST\u2019s price <\/span>briefly rebounded<\/span><\/a> on Thursday, before falling again. It\u2019s currently hovering <\/span>around $0.02<\/span><\/a>, far below early expectations. <\/span><\/p>\n
