The Bank of Mexico\u2019s (Banxico) decision to cut interest rates by 25 basis points (0.25%) at its September meeting on Thursday, bringing the official cash rate down to 10.50%, as well as a downward revision to its forecasts for the economy, contributed to the Peso\u2019s devaluation across the board.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Data showing a widening trade deficit added to the negativity surrounding the Mexican Peso after official figures showed it widened to $4.868 billion in August from $1.278 billion a year ago. These figures significantly exceeded market expectations of a $0.500 billion gap and reached a new two-year high.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The proximity of the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-fxs-autoanchor=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fxstreet.com\/economic-calendar\">United States<\/a> (US) election and prospects of former President Donald <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-fxs-autoanchor=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fxstreet.com\/macroeconomics\/events\/election-us\">Trump<\/a> winning and then imposing an \u201cAmerica First\u201d agenda, with negative implications for trade with Mexico, further add to the concerns regarding Mexico\u2019s persistent trade deficit, which amounts to $10.438 billion for the first eight months of 2024.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"fxs_headline_medium\">Mexican Peso traders prepare for data-heavy week<\/h2>\n<p>The Mexican Peso oscillates between mild gains and losses on Monday ahead of a busy week of macroeconomic data releases and key events for its major peers \u2013 the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-fxs-autoanchor=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fxstreet.com\/currencies\/us-dollar-index\">US Dollar<\/a> (USD), Euro (EUR) and Pound Sterling (GBP).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, speeches by European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde and Chairman of the Federal Reserve (Fed) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-fxs-autoanchor=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fxstreet.com\/macroeconomics\/central-banks\/fed\">Jerome Powell<\/a> could impact the EUR and USD, respectively. Recent weak data from the Eurozone, in particular, is leading to speculation in markets that the ECB will have to be more aggressive about cutting interest rates to aid growth, potentially weakening the Euro. In Mexico, Fiscal Balance data for August will be released, revealing the government\u2019s spending shortfall.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, preliminary Eurozone inflation data for September, and then the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-fxs-autoanchor=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fxstreet.com\/macroeconomics\/economic-indicator\/nfp\">Nonfarm Payrolls<\/a> (NFP) on Friday, are further key data releases relating to key Peso pairs. The NFP release will be watched closely for signs of a slowdown in the labor market after the Fed made it clear it is now taking into account its mandate to provide full employment as part of its decision-making on interest rates.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"fxs_headline_medium\">Technical Analysis: USD\/MXN trends higher within channel<\/h2>\n<p>USD\/MXN climbs steadily higher within its rising channel as it continues its short, medium and long-term bullish trend.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"fxs_headline_medium\">USD\/MXN Daily Chart\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"fxs_headline_medium\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/editorial.fxstreet.com\/miscelaneous\/_USD_MXN_2024-09-30_09-24-59-638632818187396798.png\"><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Friday\u2019s close above 19.68 (September 25 high) provided more bullish certainty of the pair\u2019s near-term upside bias towards a target at 20.15, the high of the year reached in early September.<\/p>\n<p>A further break above 19.76 (the September 27 high) would create a higher high and provide yet more proof of an extension of the uptrend.<\/p>\n<div class=\"module_calendar_event_cke post-module\">\n<div class=\"fxs-event-module-wrapper\" data-config-event-id=\"54334a3a-4347-40bc-8755-78f6f4ae4b9a\" data-config-mode=\"Upcoming\" data-config-topic=\"a9624a87-5619-454a-b233-916eacacdcb6\" data-content-module-translate=\"0\" data-module=\"event\" data-type=\"event\" data-version=\"v1\" id=\"content-module-event-a9624a87-5619-454a-b233-916eacacdcb6-583\">\n<h2 class=\"fxs-event-module-title\">Economic Indicator<\/h2>\n<div class=\"fxs-event-module-inner-calendar\">\n<div class=\"fxs-event-module-calendar-title-description-wrapper\">\n<h3 class=\"fxs-event-module-calendar-title\">Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (YoY)<\/h3>\n<p class=\"fxs-event-module-content\">The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) measures changes in the prices of a representative basket of goods and services in the European Monetary Union. The HICP, released by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\">Eurostat<\/a> on a monthly basis, is harmonized because the same methodology is used across all member states and their contribution is weighted. The YoY reading compares prices in the reference month to a year earlier.
