Will the popular Dogwifhat meme\u2014the inspiration for a valuable Solana<\/a> coin\u2014appear on the Las Vegas Sphere? A representative for the towering structure says it’s not happening.<\/p>\n

A Sphere spokesperson told <\/span>Decrypt<\/span><\/i> Friday that there is no deal to advertise Dogwifhat (WIF) on the venue\u2014and there never was one. The confirmation comes just two days after the team behind the Solana meme coin hinted via a post on X<\/a> that the dog would soon appear on the Las Vegas Sphere.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have never had a deal with Dogwifhat, and our agency at the time only had one very preliminary conversation early last year,\u201d a Sphere spokesperson told <\/span>Decrypt<\/span><\/i>. \u201cThere was and is no plan for Dogwifhat to appear on the Exosphere, and we are distressed they are using our name for fraudulent purposes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Five organizers<\/a> raised nearly $700,000 from WIF fans to put Dogwifhat on the Las Vegas Sphere<\/a> back in March 2024, which helped the token reach its all-time high of $4.83. As the months went by, criticism around the possible marketing campaign grew<\/a>, with many asking for refunds amid a lack of any clear progress towards the goal.
<\/span><\/p>\n

More than nine months after raising the funds, the official Dogwifhat X account<\/a> this week posted \u201cOfficially confirmed. Viva hat vegas.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But then the account deleted the post and reposted the artwork without the \u201cofficially confirmed\u201d line in tow. The artwork depicted the coin’s dog mascot holding a phone displaying \u201cQ1 2025,\u201d possibly hinting at when the advertisement would purportedly happen.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Dates as soon as we are allowed to share,” the post added.<\/p>\n

This post caused WIF to spike 34.7% over a four hour period, according to <\/span>CoinGecko<\/span><\/a>, to a price of $1.34. It has since settled to $1.30.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the X post, <\/span>$697,811 was sent from the WIF Sphere multi-sig wallet<\/span><\/a> to a new, <\/span>unnamed wallet<\/span><\/a>. These funds still sit in the wallet. On-chain data shows that a small amount of USDC was sent to a Coinbase wallet from the unnamed wallet an hour before the large transaction.<\/span><\/p>\n

But it appears that this was all smoke and mirrors, as a Sphere spokesperson denied any formal deal being made with the meme coin’s supporters.<\/span><\/p>\n

Decrypt<\/i> reached out for comment to Ansem<\/a>, Mihir<\/a>, and Quasi<\/a>, three of the multi-sig wallet owners, as well as the coin’s official X account, but did not receive an immediate response.

In a tweet<\/a> following the original publication of this story, the Dogwifhat account on X confirmed that there is no deal in place with the Sphere, but said that it has been working with an “established brand” to bring WIF to the venue’s massive screen.<\/p>\n

“The Wif Sphere organizers have been in ongoing negotiations with various parties to collaborate on the Sphere ad placement,” the post reads. “Since the Wif team is not a corporate entity, the organizers are collaborating WITH an established brand to execute this advertisement. Timeline has been agreed upon by affiliated parties.<\/span><\/p>\n

“If, by any chance, the plan is not executed, then the contract will be voided and contributions will be returned. There has been no intent to mislead any parties.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Decrypt<\/i> reached out to Sphere representatives for clarification following the Dogwifhat post. The Sphere spokesperson affirmed that “there was and is no plan” for Dogwifhat to appear on the venue, adding, “At this time, Sphere only accepts advertising from exchanges and [about] Bitcoin<\/span>.”<\/p>\n
