Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani<\/a> believes that artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications cannot fully replace people, and that’s because the \u201cmechanistic\u201d process is unable to replicate \u201cuniquely human\u201d qualities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Speaking to Moneycontrol at an AIMA event, Nilekani stated that AI <\/a>will never replace human skills such as collaboration, creativity, empathy and leadership \u2014 no matter how advanced the tech becomes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Nilekani told the publication that while AI will begin automating more and more tasks, human<\/a> qualities will become more valuable and the focus should shift towards prioritising and cultivating these.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cYou can have all the AIs in the world, but if you can\u2019t get five people to work together and collaborate, then you cannot go anywhere. Instead of chasing technical skills that may become obsolete, people should focus on what AI cannot replicate,\u201d Nilekani said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cAI is more mechanistic in its approach. Being able to go back to first principles and analyse something is something AI <\/a>cannot do,\u201d he added. First-principles thinking is the process of taking a step back to question assumptions and restart from the beginning.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n He also called creativity uniquely human, the report said, adding that while AI can mimic, it cannot create \u201ctruly original ideas\u201d and thus this should be prioritised by our education system.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n On AI impacting jobs, Nilekani called himself \u201coptimistic\u201d but acknowledged that some jobs <\/a>will be affected, but \u201cfew jobs\u201d will be entirely eliminated. \u201cI see AI as an opportunity, though I tend to be optimistic about everything. Yes, some jobs will be affected\u2014certain tasks will be automated\u2014but very few jobs will be entirely eliminated,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n He also noted the opportunities that AI could provide. \u201cAI will make humans more productive and create new jobs we haven\u2019t even thought of yet. India has shortages of teachers, doctors, and skilled workers. AI can amplify human capabilities, making education <\/a>and healthcare more accessible. It all depends on how you architect it\u2014AI can be extractive (where a few control all the data and profit from it) or inclusive (where it benefits everyone).
