The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has dropped its investigation into Uniswap Labs.<\/p>\n
In a February 25 post on X<\/a>, Uniswap Labs said the agency had closed the investigation into Uniswap and that it was \u201ctaking no enforcement action,\u201d adding:<\/p>\n \u201cThis is a huge win for DeFi<\/a> and reaffirms what we\u2019ve always known \u2013 that the technology we build is on the right side of the law, and our work is on the right side of history.\u201d<\/p>\n In April, the SEC issued a Wells notice claiming that Uniswap Labs operated as an unregistered broker, operated an exchange, and issued an unregistered security<\/p>\n As of yesterday, that investigation has officially been closed, and the SEC is taking no enforcement action<\/p>\n This is a\u2026<\/p>\n \u2014 Uniswap Labs \ud83e\udd84 (@Uniswap) February 25, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n In April 2024, the SEC<\/a> issued a Wells Notice to Uniswap<\/a>, claiming that the platform operated as an unregistered broker, operated an exchange, and issued an unregistered security. Uniswap followed this up with a 40-page response contesting the agency\u2019s claims<\/a>.<\/p>\n The news from Uniswap Labs comes as Coinbase announced last week that the SEC had agreed to dismiss its lawsuit against the exchange.<\/p>\n According to Coinbase, the regulator\u2019s decision to withdraw the case follows a settlement that does not involve any financial penalty against Coinbase<\/a>.<\/p>\n Robinhood Crypto has also seen the tide change after the SEC dropped its investigation into Robinhood\u2019s digital assets arm<\/a>. On February 24, the platform said in a blog that the SEC had \u201cconcluded its investigation and did not intend to move forward with an enforcement action.\u201d<\/p>\n Dan Gallagher, chief legal officer of Robinhood Markets, said: \u201cWe applaud the staff\u2019s decision to close this investigation with no action.\u201d<\/p>\n The change of direction at the SEC comes amid a pro-crypto approach following US President Donald Trump\u2019s taking office in the White House. Many are now waiting to see whether the SEC\u2019s ongoing case against Ripple<\/a> will soon be concluded.<\/p>\n In 2020, the agency first sued Ripple, Chris Larsen, co-founder of Ripple, and Brad Garlinghouse, Ripple\u2019s CEO, after alleging that they raised $1.3 billion<\/a> through the sale of XRP, an unregistered securities offering.<\/p>\n\n
