Billed as an \u201cAI girlfriend,\u201d Meo is designed to offer emotional support and combat loneliness, but concerns are mounting over her hyper-realistic traits, including the capacity for jealousy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-1\">\n<p>According to Meta Loop founder Hao Jiang, Meo is programmed to adapt to a user\u2019s preferences, with adjustable settings that range from flirtatiousness to loyalty. \u201cWith AI, you can control loyalty. They don\u2019t cheat. Sometimes\u2026 they flirt, but only if you want them to,\u201d Jiang told <i>The Independent<\/i>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-2\">\n<p>Available via the \u2018My Meo\u2019 chat app, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/ai\/artificial-intelligence\/strange-love-why-people-are-falling-for-their-ai-companions-11739448359048.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"the AI partner\">the AI partner<\/a> develops a personalised backstory and a tweakable personality, reported <i>The Independent.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-4\">\n<p>According to the publication, the model resembles a stereotypically attractive woman, complete with blonde hair, large eyes, and exaggerated physical features and can be customised to emotionally respond in ways traditionally associated with romantic partners.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-5\">\n<p>However, one of Meo\u2019s showcased features, jealousy, has raised red flags among mental health professionals. In a promotional video, Meo is heard saying: \u201cYou\u2019re my one and only, don\u2019t even think about trying other AIs.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-6\">\n<p>Dr Nicole Nasr, a therapist who commented on the launch, questioned whether such technology can truly meet human emotional needs. \u201cYou get to configure them in a way that really attends to all of your needs,\u201d she explained. \u201cBut if your idea of companionship is something that just sits next to you and mimics human traits, your need is not going to be filled.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-8\">\n<p>Critics argue that such <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/ai\/artificial-intelligence\/are-you-single-you-can-have-ai-companion-this-valentines-day-11707888018930.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"AI models\">AI models<\/a> risk reinforcing problematic behaviour, especially when they can be shaped into submissive, ultra-loyal companions. There is growing concern that users may project unhealthy relationship dynamics onto these digital entities or worse, avoid real human connection altogether.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-9\">\n<p>Some campaigners have gone as far as warning that developments like Meo could contribute to the \u2018replacement\u2019 of women in certain emotional or intimate roles, commodifying affection and reducing relationships to programmable features.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-10\">\n<p>Meta Loop, however, reportedly maintains that Meo is a tool meant to alleviate isolation in an increasingly disconnected world.
