{"id":397657,"date":"2025-07-07T15:36:29","date_gmt":"2025-07-07T10:06:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/sudden-8000000000-bitcoin-wallet-movement-potentially-result-of-hack-according-to-coinbase-executive-crypto-news\/"},"modified":"2025-07-07T15:58:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-07T10:28:11","slug":"sudden-8000000000-bitcoin-wallet-movement-potentially-result-of-hack-according-to-coinbase-executive-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/sudden-8000000000-bitcoin-wallet-movement-potentially-result-of-hack-according-to-coinbase-executive-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Sudden $8,000,000,000 Bitcoin Wallet Movement Potentially Result of Hack, According to Coinbase Executive &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sudden awakening of old Bitcoin (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/dailyhodl.com\/currencies\/bitcoin\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BTC<\/a>) whale wallets may be linked to a hack, according to on-chain analysis by Coinbase director Conor Grogan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Posting on the social media platform X, Grogan makes several observations about last week\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/dailyhodl.com\/2025\/07\/05\/ancient-bitcoin-whales-abruptly-come-alive-move-2183000000-in-btc-after-lying-dormant-for-14-years-on-chain-data\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sudden movement<\/a> of whale wallets holding $8 billion in BTC after lying dormant for more than 14 years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Grogan <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jconorgrogan\/status\/1941182442255405266\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">notes<\/a> that one of the wallets appears to have made a test transaction on the Bitcoin Cash (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/dailyhodl.com\/currencies\/bitcoin-cash\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BCH<\/a>) network just hours before the big move happened, suggesting that whoever was responsible for the transfer was trying to go unnoticed.<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere is a small possibility that the $8 billion in BTC that recently woke up were hacked or compromised private keys<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I found a single BCH test transaction from one of the BTC whale clusters\u2026 followed by the full amount. An hour later, the BTC wallets began to move.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>There is a possibility that the owner was testing the private key in a way that wouldn\u2019t get noticed, as BCH isn\u2019t monitored heavily by whale-watching services<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>What makes me say this is the other BCH wallets have not been touched at all; why wouldn\u2019t they also sweep these?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This is all extreme speculation, but the movements are extremely odd here. I do not think that this is an exchange wallet due to the BCH activity, and given the BTC transfers appear to be all manual.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin Cash is a hard fork of Bitcoin.
