The launch marks a strategic move by the semiconductor firm to deepen its challenge to Nvidia\u2019s dominance in AI infrastructure.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-1\">\n<p>The <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/companies\/news\/nvidias-jensen-huang-meets-with-trump-ahead-of-ceo-s-china-trip-11752176325030.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\">Tomahawk Ultra <\/a>is designed to act as a high-speed traffic controller, managing the vast streams of data exchanged between hundreds of interconnected processors. This function is critical in data centres where &#8220;scale-up&#8221; computing, linking numerous chips in close proximity, is vital to harnessing the computational power required for advanced AI tasks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-2\">\n<p>Broadcom\u2019s new chip goes head-to-head with Nvidia\u2019s NVLink Switch, a key component in the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/market\/stock-market-news\/south-korean-shares-rise-on-nvidia-driven-chip-rally-central-bank-decision-11752110721714.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\">GPU-maker\u2019s data centre<\/a> offerings. However, according to Ram Velaga, Broadcom\u2019s Senior Vice President and General Manager for Core Switching, the Tomahawk Ultra offers a notable advantage: it can connect four times as many chips as Nvidia\u2019s counterpart. Additionally, instead of relying on a proprietary protocol, Broadcom has enhanced standard Ethernet to meet the high-speed demands of AI networking, an approach that could offer broader industry compatibility.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-4\">\n<p>The chip will be manufactured by <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/market\/stock-market-news\/nvidia-hits-4-trillion-market-cap-after-stock-achieves-fresh-all-time-high-beats-apple-and-microsoft-11752070110629.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)\">Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) <\/a>using its 5-nanometre process technology.
