We have <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">been relentlessly focused<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> on the near-term application of quantum technology, and given the trial delivered positive results on current quantum computing hardware, we have great confidence we are on the cusp of a new frontier of computing in financial services, rather than something that is far away in the future.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In a Wednesday (Sept. 24) Bloomberg <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-09-24\/hsbc-says-it-s-beaten-wall-street-rivals-with-new-quantum-trial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">report<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Intallura called the achievement a \u201cSputnik moment\u201d for quantum computing, in reference to the Soviet satellite launch that kicked off the space race.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Quantum computing is a branch of computation that employs \u201cthe laws of quantum mechanics to represent and process information in a space that is exponentially more expansive and dynamic than what classical systems can access,\u201d according to the release. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">That means quantum computers can solve problems <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">beyond<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the reach of even the most powerful classical supercomputers <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">functioning<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> independently.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">HSBC and IBM <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">used<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> quantum and classical computing to <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">deliver<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> up to a 34% improvement in predicting <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">how likely<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> a trade <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">would <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">be<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> filled<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> at<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> a <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">quoted price, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">versus<\/span> <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">common<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> classical techniques <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">used<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> in the industry, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">per<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the release.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"pymnt-content\" id=\"pymnt-300204393\" style=\"margin-top: 50px;\">\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Advertisement: Scroll to Continue<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThe results show the value quantum computers could offer when integrated into the dynamic problems facing the financial services industry, and how they could potentially offer superior solutions over standard methods which use classical computers alone,\u201d the release said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Meanwhile, PYMNTS reported in July that <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">there are<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> three developments in the <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/technology\/2025\/banks-eye-quantum-innovations-as-big-tech-chases-ai-talent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">quantum computing field<\/span><\/a> <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">that<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> have <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">prodded<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the financial world to <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">go<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> beyond research and into operational pilots.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cFirst, quantum hardware is improving, with firms like IBM delivering machines with 50+ physical qubits and early versions of error mitigation,\u201d the report said. \u201cSecond, cloud access to quantum systems has lowered entry barriers.
