Robinhood<\/a>\u2019s CEO has reportedly predicted a worldwide spread of real-world asset tokenization.<\/p>\n \u201cTokenization is like a freight train. It can\u2019t be stopped, and eventually it\u2019s going to eat the entire financial system,\u201d\u00a0Vlad Tenev<\/a>\u00a0told a panel at a cryptocurrency conference in Singapore on Wednesday (Oct. 1).<\/p>\n \u201cI think most major markets will have some framework in the next five years,\u201d said Tenev, whose comments were\u00a0reported<\/a>\u00a0by CNBC.<\/p>\n The CEO added that reaching 100% could take more than a decade. As that report notes, a tokenized asset is a digital representation of a real-world asset, such as stocks, bonds or commodities, that can be recorded and traded on a blockchain.<\/p>\n Robinhood in June began offering\u00a0more than 200 tokenized<\/a>\u00a0U.S. stocks to customers in the European Union, bringing the company\u2019s stock to what was then a record high.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it will become the default way to get exposure to U.S. stocks outside the U.S.,\u201d Tenev said, adding that he expects the practice to expand after there is more clarity around licensing and regulations throughout the world.<\/p>\n Advertisement: Scroll to Continue<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI think that will come, starting in Europe, but then expanding to the rest of the world,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Beyond Robinhood\u2019s launch of tokenized stocks, the CNBC report points out that there have been other indications of tokenization\u2019s\u00a0growing popularity<\/a>, with financial sector titans\u00a0Morgan Stanley<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0BlackRock<\/a>\u00a0expressing interest.<\/p>\n \u201cI actually think cryptocurrency and traditional finance have been living in two separate worlds for a while, but they\u2019re going to fully merge,\u201d Tenev said at the event.<\/p>\n Tenev is not alone in forecasting the transformative effect of tokenization. As covered here last month, the\u00a0Bank for International Settlements<\/a>\u00a0(BIS) has said\u00a0tokenized money and assets<\/a>\u00a0could reshape monetary policy and payments.<\/p>\n \u201cA BIS study said a tokenized, unified ledger run by public authorities could replicate stablecoin benefits without private-coin risks,\u201d PYMNTS wrote. \u201cThe BIS and\u00a0Federal Reserve Bank of New York<\/a>\u00a0also co-authored\u00a0experimental work<\/a> showing how smart contracts might automate liquidity operations and policy transmission.\u201d<\/p>\n The Federal Reserve, meanwhile, has emphasized the need for interoperable standards on settlement finality, identity and dispute resolution to make sure tokenization scales responsibly.<\/p>\n \u201cTogether, these projects underscore how public authorities aim to integrate tokenization into regulated infrastructures while private firms race ahead with commercial deployments,\u201d that report concluded.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Robinhood\u2019s CEO has reportedly predicted a worldwide spread of real-world asset tokenization. \u201cTokenization is like a freight train.
