{"id":407773,"date":"2025-10-11T16:50:21","date_gmt":"2025-10-11T11:20:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/railgun-token-soars-as-vitalik-calls-privacy-a-first-class-priority-for-ethereum-crypto-news\/"},"modified":"2025-10-11T17:01:48","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T11:31:48","slug":"railgun-token-soars-as-vitalik-calls-privacy-a-first-class-priority-for-ethereum-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/railgun-token-soars-as-vitalik-calls-privacy-a-first-class-priority-for-ethereum-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Railgun Token Soars as Vitalik Calls Privacy a \u2018First-Class Priority\u2019 for Ethereum &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p>Ethereum\u2019s new privacy initiative boosted Railgun\u2019s RAIL token to an all-time high, following comments from Vitalik Buterin emphasizing privacy as a core focus.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Privacy is back in focus for the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/tag\/ethereum\" target=\"__blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer \">Ethereum<\/a> ecosystem, with the Ethereum Foundation introducing a new toolkit designed to give wallets stronger protection and more autonomy.<\/p>\n<p>In a Thursday <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ethereumfndn\/status\/1976319896570261568\" target=\"__blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer \">post on X<\/a>, the foundation wrote that the \u2018Kohaku\u2019 toolkit is a set of primitives that enables wallets to be \u201csecure and to process private transactions while minimizing dependencies on trusted third parties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a separate X post, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin also <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/VitalikButerin\/status\/1976200898851504507\" target=\"__blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer \">mentioned<\/a> Kohaku, adding that full-stack privacy and security \u201care first-class priorities in Ethereum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Nicolas Consigny, a protocol supporter and coordinator at the Ethereum Foundation, explained in a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/notes.ethereum.org\/@niard\/KohakuRoadmap#Kohaku-Roadmap\" target=\"__blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer \">roadmap paper<\/a>, Kohaku will target three core goals: an SDK that exposes strong privacy\/security primitives, a power-user-oriented reference implementation wallet, and collaborations with other wallets to implement the SDK \u201ceither in full or in parts that they care about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To start, the team will focus on \u201cprivacy features and a browser extension that demonstrates the power of these features,\u201d adding that the reference wallet \u201cwill not be a consumer-oriented product.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among early priorities are support for private sends and receives, social recovery through zero-knowledge tools like ZKemail and ZKpassport, and optional peer-to-peer transactions that bypass RPC nodes.<\/p>\n<p>According to Consigny, the team <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ncsgy\/status\/1976200255856312675\" target=\"__blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer \">also plans<\/a> to showcase these features in a demo at Devconnect ARG, an Ethereum developer conference in Buenos Aires, scheduled for Nov. 17-22.<\/p>\n<h2>Privacy Coins Rally<\/h2>\n<p>One of the listed collaborators for the initiative is <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/tag\/railgun\" target=\"__blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer \">Railgun<\/a>, a zero-knowledge privacy protocol that functions like an on-chain mixer but is built to provide broader private smart-contract interactions.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption class=\"text-center text-xs\">RAIL Chart<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Amid the news and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/news\/markets\/zcash-price-rally-crypto-privacy\" target=\"__blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer \">the broader trend for privacy coins<\/a>, Railgun\u2019s RAIL token soared 112% on the day, hitting a new all-time high at $5.48.<\/p>\n<p>But, as is often the case with crypto applications, Railgun was also abused by bad actors. According to the FBI, in January 2023, North Korea\u2019s notorious hacker group, the Lazarus Group, used Railgun <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/news\/press-releases\/fbi-confirms-lazarus-group-cyber-actors-responsible-for-harmonys-horizon-bridge-currency-theft\" target=\"__blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer \">to launder over $60 million<\/a> worth of Ethereum (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/prices\/ethereum\" target=\"__blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer \">ETH<\/a>) stolen during <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/news\/hacks\/harmony-hack-lazarus\" target=\"__blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer \">the June 2022 heist<\/a> from Harmony\u2019s Horizon bridge.<\/p>\n<p>Later, however, the protocol demonstrated an evolving approach to balancing privacy and compliance.<\/p>\n<p>Using its \u201cPrivate Proofs of Innocence\u201d system, which automatically screens deposits against known malicious addresses, Railgun blocked the zkLend attacker\u2019s attempt to launder $9.5 million in stolen ETH, prompting Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/VitalikButerin\/status\/1889995280524681393\" target=\"__blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer \">to call it<\/a> a \u201csolid demonstration of Railgun&#8217;s privacy pools mechanism working in practice, allowing Railgun to avoid serving proceeds of crime without using any snooping\/backdoors.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ethereum\u2019s new privacy initiative boosted Railgun\u2019s RAIL token to an all-time high, following comments from Vitalik Buterin emphasizing privacy as a core focus.
