Leading artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT will soon relax restrictions put into place for users in mental distress, and roll-roll-out age verified access from December, according to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cAs we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our \u2018treat adult users like adults\u2019 principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults,\u201d Sam Altman wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter) late on October 14.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
He added that OpenAI has \u201cbeen able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Altman said that OpenAI had made ChatGPT \u201cpretty restrictive\u201d to make sure it was being careful with mental health issues, though that made the chatbot \u201cless useful\/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cIn the coming weeks, OpenAI will release a version of ChatGPT that will allow people to better dictate the tone and personality of the chatbot,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cIf you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing),\u201d according to Altman.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Earlier on Tuesday, Meta unveiled a new system to limit what users under 18 can see on Instagram and its generative AI tools, using filters inspired by the PG-13 movie rating system, as per a Reuters report.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Responding to users in the comments, Sam Altman said that the users would not get the mature content unless they asked for it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
He also answered on user on making the chatbot fun, \u201cFor sure; we want that too.Almost all users can use ChatGPT. however they’d like without negative effects; for a very small percentage of users in mentally fragile states there can be serious problems. 0.1% of a billion users is still a million people.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cWe needed (and will continue to need) to learn how to protect those users, and then with enhanced tools for that, adults that are not at risk of serious harm (mental health breakdowns, suicide, etc) should have a great deal of freedom in how they use ChatGPT,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
